Cable Knit Sweater with Round Yoke
How to knit the Cable Sweater with Round Yoke:
Size: M–L (US 10–12 / UK 12–14).
Materials:
300 g cotton yarn (100% mercerized cotton, 500 m per 100 g / 547 yards per 3.5 ounces), straight and circular knitting needles 2.5 mm (US 1.5).
Work with yarn held double throughout.
Ribbing Pattern 2/2: alternately knit 2 stitches, purl 2 stitches.
Reverse Stocking Stitch: on right-side rows purl stitches, on wrong-side rows knit stitches.
Cable Pattern 1, 2 and 3:
work according to charts 1, 2 and 3, which show right-side rows only.
On wrong-side rows, work the stitches as they appear.
Repeat rows 1 to 10 throughout.
Back:
Cast on 80 stitches and work 4 cm (1.6 inches) in Ribbing Pattern.
Then arrange the stitches as follows: edge stitch, 3 repeats of Cable Pattern 1, 1 repeat of Cable Pattern 2, 3 repeats of Cable Pattern 3 and edge stitch.
At a height of 40 cm (15.7 inches) from cast-on, bind off 4 stitches at each side, place the remaining stitches on hold.
Front: work as for the back.
Sleeves:
Cast on 40 stitches and work 6 cm (2.4 inches) in Ribbing Pattern.
Then arrange the stitches as follows: edge stitch, 4 stitches in Reverse Stocking Stitch, 3 repeats of Cable Pattern 1, 4 stitches in Reverse Stocking Stitch, edge stitch.
For sleeve shaping, increase 1 stitch at each side every 4th row 4 times = 48 stitches.
At a height of 42 cm (16.5 inches) from the beginning, bind off 4 stitches at each side and place the remaining stitches on hold.
Yoke:
Slip all stitches of the pieces onto circular needles and continue in the round in pattern, knitting the edge stitches together as knit stitches.
At a raglan height of 13 cm (5.1 inches), decrease evenly 3 stitches in each pattern repeat.
Then work in Ribbing Pattern 3/2 (alternately knit 3 stitches and purl 2 stitches).
After 3 cm (1.2 inches) of ribbing, in each column of 2 purl stitches, purl 2 stitches together.
Then work in Ribbing Pattern 3/1 (alternately knit 3 stitches and purl 1 stitch) for 7 cm (2.75 inches) more and bind off all stitches.
Finishing:
Sew side seams and sleeve seams.
