Cable Relief Dress-Tunic
How to knit the cable relief dress-tunic:
Size: EU 40 (US 8–10 / UK 12–14)
Materials:
600 g yarn (50% wool, 50% acrylic, 250 m/100 g), straight and circular needles 3 mm (US 2.5 / UK 11).
Stockinette stitch: right-side rows – knit stitches, wrong-side rows – purl stitches.
Ribbing Pattern 1: work alternately 3 knit stitches, 2 purl stitches.
Ribbing Pattern 2: work alternately 3 knit stitches, 3 purl stitches.
Relief pattern:
Work according to chart 1, which shows right-side rows only.
On wrong-side rows, work the stitches as they appear.
“Royal Cable” pattern:
Work according to chart 2, which shows right-side rows only.
On wrong-side rows, work the stitches as they appear.
Back:
Cast on 106 stitches, work 3 rows in Ribbing Pattern 2, then work the relief pattern (4 repeats, finish with 8 cable stitches).
At a height of 60 cm (23.6 in) from the cast-on edge, for the armholes on both sides in every 2nd row bind off 1 time 4 stitches, 3 times 1 stitch = 92 stitches.
Then work 2 knit stitches after and before the edge stitch.
At a height of 82 cm (32.3 in) from the cast-on edge bind off 30 stitches for each shoulder, place the central 32 stitches for the neckline on a stitch holder.
Front:
Cast on 108 stitches, work as for the back, but work the “Royal Cable” pattern in the center.
Distribute the stitches as follows: edge stitch, 2 purl stitches, 1 relief pattern repeat + 8 cable stitches, 4 purl stitches, 30 stitches of the “Royal Cable” pattern, 4 purl stitches, 1 relief pattern repeat + 8 cable stitches, 2 purl stitches, edge stitch.
At a height of 79 cm (31.1 in) from the cast-on edge for the neckline place the central 10 stitches on a stitch holder and finish both sides separately.
For shaping, in every 2nd row place on hold 1 time 4 stitches, 1 time 3 stitches, 2 times 2 stitches, 1 time 1 stitch.
Sleeves:
Cast on 50 stitches, work 3 rows in Ribbing Pattern 2.
Then distribute the stitches as follows: edge stitch, 4 stitches in stockinette stitch, 1 sleeve relief pattern repeat (marked with arrows in the chart), 8 cable stitches, 1 sleeve relief pattern repeat, 4 stitches in stockinette stitch, edge stitch.
For sleeve shaping on both sides in every 6th row increase 16 times 1 stitch = 80 stitches.
Work the increased stitches in stockinette stitch.
At a height of 46 cm (18.1 in) from the cast-on edge for the sleeve cap on both sides in every 2nd row bind off 1 time 4 stitches, 12 times 1 stitch, 1 time 2 stitches, 1 time 4 stitches, 1 time 8 stitches, then bind off the remaining 20 stitches.
Finishing:
Sew shoulder and side seams.
For the collar transfer the held stitches to circular needles, evenly pick up 19 additional stitches = 85 stitches, mark 35 back stitches with a marker and work in the round 2 rows in Ribbing Pattern 1.
Then increase 1 stitch in each purl channel = 102 stitches and work 4 rows in Ribbing Pattern 2.
Then increase 1 stitch in each knit channel of the front = 112 stitches and continue to the end of the collar working back stitches in Ribbing Pattern 1 and front stitches in Ribbing Pattern 2.
Work 4 rows over all stitches.
Then work 2 rows over front stitches only, then 2 rows over all stitches.
Work in this way alternating knitting front stitches only and all stitches 5 more times.
Then work all stitches for 4 rows and bind off.
Sew sleeve seams and sew the sleeves into the armholes.
