How to knit the Cardigan with Lace Cable Pattern:
Size: US 14–16 / UK 18–20 (EU 44–46)
Length: 22.5 in (57 cm)
Width: 19.75 in (50 cm)
Armhole depth: 8 in (20 cm)
Cuff circumference: 6.25 in (16 cm)
Materials:
500 g yarn (70% acrylic, 30% wool, 183 yd/100 g). Knitting needles size US 9 (5.5 mm UK).
Stockinette stitch: right side rows – knit stitches, wrong side rows – purl stitches.
Reverse stockinette stitch: right side rows – purl stitches, wrong side rows – knit stitches.
Ribbing Pattern 2/2: * 2 knit stitches, 2 purl stitches *, repeat from * to *.
Lace Cable Pattern:
Work according to Chart 1, which shows only right-side rows.
On wrong side rows, work the stitches as they appear, work yarn overs purl.
Repeat rows 1 to 8 continuously in height.
Sleeve Pattern:
Work according to Chart 2, which shows only right-side rows.
On wrong side rows, work the stitches as they appear, work yarn overs purl.
Repeat rows 1 to 8 continuously in height.
Back:
Cast on 80 stitches and work 14 rows (= 6 cm / 2.25 in) in Rib Pattern 2/2.
Continue in stockinette stitch.
At 14.5 in (37 cm) from the beginning, bind off for the armholes at both sides in every second row as follows: 3 stitches once, 2 stitches once, and 1 stitch twice.
At 22.5 in (57 cm) from the beginning, bind off all remaining stitches.
Right Front:
Cast on 48 stitches and distribute as follows: first 8 stitches for the front band, worked alternating 2 rows in stockinette and 2 rows in reverse stockinette; the remaining 40 stitches in Rib Pattern 2/2 for 14 rows (6 cm / 2.25 in).
Then work as follows: 8 stitches front band, 3 knit stitches, 30 stitches in lace cable pattern, 7 knit stitches.
At 14.5 in (37 cm) from the beginning, bind off for the armhole at the left edge in every second row as follows: 3 stitches once, 2 stitches once, and 1 stitch twice.
At the same height, shape the neckline by decreasing 1 stitch after the 8 front band stitches in every second row until 25 stitches remain.
At 22.5 in (57 cm) from the beginning, bind off 16 stitches for the shoulder and continue working the 8 front band stitches for 20 rows (= 7 cm / 2.75 in).
Bind off the remaining stitches.
Work the second front piece symmetrically, placing the front band on the opposite side.
Sleeves:
Cast on 34 stitches and work 14 rows (6 cm / 2.25 in) in 2x2 rib, while in the last row increase 18 stitches evenly.
Then work as follows: 15 knit stitches, 22 stitches in the sleeve pattern, 15 knit stitches.
For sleeve shaping, increase 1 stitch at each side every 8th row 5 times.
At 17.75 in (45 cm) from the beginning, bind off for the sleeve cap at both sides in every second row as follows: 3 stitches once, 2 stitches once, and 1 stitch 4 times.
Then bind off 1 stitch at the beginning and end of the row 3 times.
Bind off the remaining stitches.
Knit the second sleeve in the same way.
Finishing:
Sew shoulder seams.
Sew the back collar seam and attach the collar to the neckline.
Sew side seams and sleeve seams. Set in sleeves.
