Checkerboard Stitch Sweater
How to knit the checkerboard stitch sweater:
Size: US 6 / UK 10.
Materials:
600 g of yarn (100% acrylic, 155 m/100 g); circular knitting needles US 10.5 / 6.5 mm, 29” long.
Ribbing Pattern (2x2): *work 2 purl stitches, 2 knit stitches*, repeat from * to *.
Checkerboard Stitch: work following chart 1.
Lace Stitch: work following chart 2.
Gauge:
Checkerboard Stitch: 15 stitches × 19 rows = 4” × 4” / 10 × 10 cm.
Back:
Cast on 70 stitches and work in checkerboard stitch pattern.
When work measures 21.75” (55 cm), bind off all stitches.
Front:
Work as back, but shape the neckline.
At 19.25” (49 cm) bind off the central 10 stitches and work each side separately.
On the neckline side, decrease every 2 rows: 2 stitches once, then 1 stitch 6 times.
At 21.75” (55 cm) bind off the remaining 22 stitches for each shoulder.
Sleeves (make 2):
Cast on 22 stitches and work 2.5” (6.5 cm) in Ribbing Pattern.
Then continue in Lace Stitch following chart 2, increasing 50 stitches evenly in the first row = 72 stitches.
Increase 50 more stitches evenly in the second row = 122 stitches.
When work measures 16” (41 cm), bind off all stitches.
Make the second sleeve in the same way.
Finishing:
Sew the left shoulder seam for 5” (13 cm), leave the right shoulder open for the collar.
Collar:
Pick up 84 stitches around the neckline and work 1.5” (4 cm) in Ribbing Pattern.
Bind off all stitches with a long tail (approx. 10”), then use the tail to sew the collar and the right shoulder seam.
Sew body sides for 10” (25 cm), leaving 12” (30 cm) open for armholes.
Sew the sleeves (16” / 41 cm) and set them into the armholes.
