Diamond Pattern Sweater
How to knit the Diamond Pattern Sweater:
Size: 14/16, US 10/12.
Material:
450 g of yarn (70% acrylic, 30% alpaca, approximately 148 yards / 50 g).
Knitting needles size US 2½ (3 mm) and US 6 (4 mm), and a circular needle size US 2½ (3 mm), 16 inches long.
Ribbing Pattern, needles size US 2½ (3 mm):
Work 1 knit stitch and 1 purl stitch alternately.
Diamond Pattern (Main Pattern, needles size US 6 / 4 mm):
Work following the chart. Only the right-side rows are shown.
On wrong-side rows, work the stitches as they appear, purl the yarn overs, or follow the chart symbols.
Repeat rows 1–24 throughout.
Gauge: 22 stitches and 30 rows = 4 × 4 inches (10 × 10 cm).
Back:
Cast on 110 stitches and work 7 cm in ribbing pattern, increasing evenly by 19 stitches in the last row = 129 stitches.
Continue in the main pattern.
Begin with 1 edge stitch and the stitches before the pattern repeat, repeat the pattern throughout, and end with the stitches after the pattern repeat and 1 edge stitch.
When work measures 37 cm, shape the armholes by binding off at each edge every 2nd row 1 time 3 stitches, 2 times 2 stitches, and 2 times 1 stitch = 111 stitches.
When work measures 63 cm, shape the neckline by binding off the center 33 stitches straight, then on each side every 2nd row bind off 1 time 5 stitches and 1 time 2 stitches.
At the same time, shape the shoulders by binding off every 2nd row 1 time 10 stitches and 2 times 11 stitches.
Front:
Work as for the back until the neckline.
When work measures 55 cm, bind off the center 15 stitches straight, then on each side every 2nd row bind off 2 times 3 stitches, 3 times 2 stitches, and 4 times 1 stitch.
At 63 cm height, bind off the shoulder stitches as on the back.
Sleeves:
Cast on 50 stitches and work 7 cm in ribbing pattern, increasing evenly by 25 stitches in the last row = 75 stitches.
Continue in the main pattern and, in the first row after the edge stitches, repeat the pattern 3 times, ending with the edge stitches.
At the same time, shape the sleeve by increasing at each edge in the 4th row 1 time 1 stitch, then in every 6th row 15 times 1 stitch = 107 stitches.
When sleeve measures 40 cm, shape the sleeve cap by binding off at each edge every 2nd row 1 time 3 stitches, 16 times 2 stitches, 2 times 3 stitches, and then bind off the remaining stitches straight.
Knit the second sleeve in the same way.
Finishing:
Sew all pieces together and set in the sleeves.
Pick up about 130 stitches around the neckline using the circular needle and work 4 cm in ribbing pattern. Bind off all stitches loosely.![]()
