Lace Cable Sweater
How to knit the Lace Cable Sweater:
Sizes: US 8/10 (16/18), UK 12/14 (20/22), EU 38/40 (44/46).
Materials:
700 (800) g yarn (50% cotton, 50% modal viscose; 131 yd/50 g); US 1½ (2.5 mm) and US 4 (3.5 mm) knitting needles; US 1½ (2.5 mm) circular needle, 16 inches (40 cm) long.
Ribbing Pattern, US 1½ (2.5 mm) needles: *Knit 1, purl 1; repeat from * throughout.
Lace Cable Pattern (main pattern), US 4 (3.5 mm) needles:
Work according to the chart, which shows right-side rows only.
On wrong-side rows, work stitches as they appear, purl the yarn overs, and work each double yarn over as: purl 1, twisted purl 1.
Over the first 17 stitches and the last 3 stitches, repeat Rows 1–8 throughout; over all remaining stitches, repeat Rows 1–14 throughout.
Gauge: 26 stitches and 32 rows = 4 x 4 inches (10 x 10 cm).
Back:
Cast on 124 (138) stitches and work 1.6 inches (4 cm) in Ribbing Pattern, increasing 21 (22) stitches evenly across the last row = 145 (160) stitches.
Continue in the main pattern as follows: 1 edge stitch, 3 pattern repeats, stitches 1–14 of the pattern repeat, 1 edge stitch (1 edge stitch, stitches 15–43 of the pattern repeat, 3 pattern repeats, 1 edge stitch).
When the piece measures 25.6 (27.2) inches [65 (69) cm], bind off the center 51 (54) stitches for the neckline, then bind off 3 stitches twice on each side in every other row.
When the piece measures 26.4 (28) inches [67 (71) cm], bind off the remaining shoulder stitches.
Front:
Work as for the Back, but with a deeper neckline.
When the piece measures 24 (25.6) inches [61 (65) cm], bind off the center 35 (38) stitches for the neckline, then on each side bind off in every other row: 4 stitches twice, 2 stitches twice, and 1 stitch twice.
When the piece measures 26.4 (28) inches [67 (71) cm], bind off the remaining shoulder stitches.
Sleeves:
Cast on 50 (56) stitches and work 1.6 inches (4 cm) in Ribbing Pattern, increasing 15 (18) stitches evenly across the last row = 65 (74) stitches.
Continue in the main pattern as follows: 1 edge stitch, stitches 41–43 of the pattern repeat, 1 pattern repeat, stitches 1–17 of the pattern repeat, 1 edge stitch (1 edge stitch, stitches 15–43 of the pattern repeat, 1 pattern repeat, 1 edge stitch).
For sleeve shaping, increase 1 stitch at each side every 4th row 8 times (5 times), then alternately every 2nd and 4th row increase 1 stitch 28 times (32 times) = 137 (148) stitches.
When the sleeve measures 16.5 inches (42 cm), bind off all stitches.
Finishing:
Sew the shoulder seams.
Using the circular needle, pick up 124 (130) stitches around the neckline, work 1.6 inches (4 cm) in Ribbing Pattern, then bind off all stitches.
Sew the side and sleeve seams. Set in the sleeves.
