Lace Cardigan Knitting Pattern

Size: 8 (US) / 12 (UK).

800 g of yarn (100% mercerized cotton, 452 m / 400 g), US size 10 (UK size 4) circular needles, 100 cm long.

Garter stitch: knit all stitches in both right-side and wrong-side rows.

Lace Pattern A: work according to chart 1.

Lace Pattern B: work according to chart 2.

 

Slip-slip-pass over (2 sts): slip 1 stitch knitwise, knit 1 stitch, pass the slipped stitch over the knitted one.

Central double decrease (3 sts): slip 1 stitch knitwise, knit 2 stitches together, pass the slipped stitch over the resulting stitch.

 

Garter stitch: 14 sts × 21 rows = 10 × 10 cm.

Begin knitting from the sleeve cuff.

Cast on 36 stitches and knit 4 cm in garter stitch.

Continue in Lace Pattern A, increasing 1 stitch on each side every 5th row, 4 times in total = 44 stitches.

When the work measures 26 cm from the cast-on edge, increase 8 stitches on each side = 60 stitches.

Work another 16 cm in Lace Pattern A.

On the next row, bind off 34 stitches on the right side.

Over the remaining 26 stitches on the left side, continue in Lace Pattern A for 8 cm and bind off all stitches.

Right side of the upper part: work symmetrically.

Sew both parts together at the center back (22 cm), aligning Lace Pattern A to Lace Pattern A.

Fold the piece in half to determine front and back.  

Sew the sleeves (26 cm).

The right front, left front, and back are worked in one piece.

Along the lower edge of the upper part, pick up 133 stitches.

Work 32 cm in Lace Pattern B, then 3 cm in garter stitch, and bind off all stitches.

Pick up 190 stitches along the front edges.

Work 6 cm in garter stitch and bind off all stitches.
