How to knit the lace pattern sweater:
Sizes: EU 36/38 (40/42) 50/52 = US 6–8 (10–12) 18–20 / UK 10–12 (14–16) 22–24
Materials:
850 (950) 1050 g yarn (50 % natural wool, 50 % polyacrylic, 85 m/50 g = approx. 93 yd/50 g); straight needles 4 and 4.5 mm (US 6 and US 7); circular needle 4 mm (US 6).
Ribbing Pattern, 4 mm (US 6) needles: work alternately 1 knit stitch, 1 purl stitch.
Lace Pattern, 4.5 mm (US 7) needles: number of stitches a multiple of 20 + 1 (11) 11 + 2 edge stitches.
Work according to the chart, which shows right-side rows only.
On wrong-side rows, work the stitches as they appear, purl the yarn overs.
Size 36/38: begin with 1 edge stitch, work the pattern repeat throughout, end with 1 stitch after the pattern repeat and 1 edge stitch.
Sizes 40/42 and 50/52: begin with 1 edge stitch, work the pattern repeat throughout, end with the stitches up to arrow A and 1 edge stitch.
Repeat rows 1 to 52 throughout.
Gauge: 19.5 stitches and 29.5 rows = 10 x 10 cm (4 x 4 in).
Back:
Cast on 90 (100) 120 stitches and work 3 cm (1.2 in) in Ribbing Pattern; in the last row increase 13 stitches evenly = 103 (113) 133 stitches.
Then work in Lace Pattern.
After 60 cm = 176 rows (65 cm = 192 rows) 65 cm = 192 rows (23.6 (25.6) 25.6 in) from the ribbing, bind off the center 21 (21) 25 stitches for the neckline and finish both sides separately.
For the neckline shaping, bind off at the inner edge every 2nd row 1 time 4 stitches and 1 time 3 stitches.
Bind off the remaining 34 (39) 47 shoulder stitches after 62 cm = 184 rows (67 cm = 198 rows) 67 cm = 198 rows (24.4 (26.4) 26.4 in) from the ribbing.
Front:
Work as for the back, but with a deeper neckline.
For this, after 55 cm = 162 rows (60 cm = 176 rows) 60 cm = 176 rows (21.7 (23.6) 23.6 in) from the ribbing, bind off the center 5 (5) 9 stitches and, for neckline shaping at the inner edge, bind off every 2nd row 2 times 3 stitches, 3 times 2 stitches and 2 times 1 stitch, then in the following 4th row bind off 1 time 1 stitch.
Sleeves:
Cast on 46 (50) 58 stitches and work 3 cm (1.2 in) in Ribbing Pattern; in the last row increase 17 (13) 5 stitches evenly = 63 stitches.
Then work in Lace Pattern.
Begin with 1 edge stitch and the stitches from arrow C, then work the pattern repeat 2 times, end with the stitches up to arrow B and 1 edge stitch.
For the sleeve shaping, increase on both sides from the ribbing 20 times 1 stitch alternately in every 4th and 6th row and 3 times 1 stitch in every 4th row (20 times 1 stitch alternately in every 4th and 6th row and 3 times 1 stitch in every 4th row) 25 times 1 stitch in every 4th row, working the increased stitches into the pattern = 109 (109) 113 stitches.
After 39 cm = 116 rows (39 cm = 116 rows) 36 cm = 106 rows (15.4 (15.4) 14.2 in) from the ribbing, bind off all stitches.
Finishing:
Sew the shoulder seams.
Pick up 90 (90) 98 stitches around the neckline on the circular needle, work 3 cm (1.2 in) in Ribbing Pattern and bind off the stitches as they appear.
Set in the sleeves, sew the side seams and sleeve seams.
