Lace Pattern Sweater
How to knit the Lace Pattern Sweater:
Sizes: US 6/8 (10/12), UK 10/12 (14/16), European 36/38 (40/42)
Materials:
650 (700) g yarn (100% cotton, 131 yds/1.76 oz); US 4 or US 6 circular knitting needles (3.5 mm or 4 mm) and US G-6 crochet hook (4 mm).
Garter Stitch in the round: Alternate 1 round knit stitches and 1 round purl stitches.
Lace Pattern (main pattern):
Work according to the chart, which shows right-side rows only.
On wrong-side rows, work the stitches as they appear, purl the yarn overs, and purl the twisted knit stitches through the back loop.
Work Rows 1–26 once; repeat Rows 19–26 once, then repeat Rows 19–36 throughout.
Gauge: 24 stitches and 32 rows = 4 x 4 in (10 x 10 cm).
Front:
Cast on 135 (143) stitches and work in the Main Pattern, beginning at arrow A (B).
After 15.4 in (39 cm) from the cast-on edge, bind off 2 stitches at both sides, then decrease 1 stitch 3 times in every 2nd row = 125 (133) stitches.
After 23 (26.4) in [58.5 (67) cm] from the cast-on edge, bind off the center 19 stitches and complete each side separately.
For neck shaping, bind off at the inner edge on both sides in every 2nd row: 5 stitches once, 3 stitches once, 2 stitches once, and 1 stitch once; then in every 4th row bind off 1 stitch once.
After 25.2 in (64 cm) from the cast-on edge, bind off the remaining stitches of each shoulder.
Back:
Work as for the Front, but with a shallower neckline.
For this, after 24.4 in (62 cm) from the cast-on edge, bind off the center 27 stitches and then in every 2nd row bind off 5 stitches once and 3 stitches once.
Sleeves:
Cast on 63 stitches for each sleeve and work in the Main Pattern, beginning at arrow B.
For sleeve shaping, increase 1 stitch at both sides 29 times in every 5th row = 121 stitches.
After 18.3 in (46.5 cm) from the cast-on edge, bind off 2 stitches at both sides, then bind off 5 stitches twice in every 2nd row.
After 19.1 in (48.5 cm) from the cast-on edge, bind off the remaining stitches.
Finishing:
Join the shoulder seams.
Pick up stitches around the neckline and work 0.6 in (1.5 cm) in Garter Stitch, then bind off all stitches.
Fold the sleeves in half and sew them in place.
Join the remaining seams, leaving the lower 4.7 in (12 cm) of the side seams open for side slits.
Crochet around the slit edges with 1 round of single crochet and 1 round of reverse single crochet (crab stitch).
