Lace Stripe Sweater

How to knit the Lace Stripe Sweater:
Sizes: US 8/10 (12/14), UK 12/14 (16/18), EU 38/40 (42/44)
Materials:
750 (800) g yarn (100% cotton, 114 yd/50 g); circular needles US 2.5–4 (3.0–3.5 mm) and US 4–6 (3.5–4.0 mm).

Stockinette Stitch: knit on right-side rows, purl on wrong-side rows.

Lace Stripe, larger needles (over 11 stitches):
Work according to Chart 1, which shows right-side rows only.
On wrong-side rows, purl all stitches and yarn overs.
At the edges, make as many yarn overs as stitches previously bound off.

Lace Border, smaller needles:
Work according to Chart 2, which shows right-side rows only.
On wrong-side rows, purl all stitches and yarn overs.

Neckband Pattern, smaller needles: 4 rounds knit, 1 turning round (= knit 2 stitches together, yarn over); 4 rounds knit.

Vertical Eyelet Stripe, larger needles (over 3 stitches):
Right-side rows: yarn over, slip 1 stitch purlwise, knit 2 stitches and pass the slipped stitch over them; yarn over;
Wrong-side rows: purl all stitches and yarn overs.


Main Pattern, larger needles: * 3 stitches Vertical Eyelet Stripe, 4 stitches Stockinette Stitch, 11 stitches Lace Stripe, 4 stitches Stockinette Stitch, repeat from * throughout.

Gauge: 24 stitches and 33 rows = 4 x 4 in (10 x 10 cm).

Front:
Cast on 133 (143) stitches, work 2 in (5 cm) in Lace Border and work 0 (5) stitches in Stockinette Stitch at both sides.
Continue as follows: 1 edge stitch, 9 (14) stitches Stockinette Stitch, 113 stitches Main Pattern, 9 (14) stitches Stockinette Stitch, 1 edge stitch.
After 17 (17¾) in [43 (45) cm] from the beginning, for armholes bind off 4 stitches at both sides and in every 2nd row bind off 3 stitches twice, 2 stitches 3 times and 1 stitch 4 times = 93 (103) stitches.
After 24¾ (25½) in [63 (65) cm] from the beginning, for neckline bind off the center 21 stitches and finish both sides separately.
For neckline shaping, at the inner edge in every 2nd row bind off 3 stitches once, 2 stitches 3 times and 1 stitch 4 times.
After 28 (28¾) in [71 (73) cm] from the beginning, bind off the remaining stitches of each shoulder.

Back:
Work as Front, but without neckline shaping.
Bind off stitches at the same height as the Front.

Sleeves:
Cast on 55 stitches for each sleeve, work 2 in (5 cm) in Lace Border and work 0 (5) stitches in Stockinette Stitch at both sides.
Continue in Main Pattern, beginning with edge stitch + 10 stitches of Lace Stripe from the arrow.
For sleeve shaping, increase 1 stitch at both sides in every 4th row 30 times = 115 stitches.
After 17 in (43 cm) from the beginning, bind off 4 stitches at both sides and in every 2nd row bind off 3 stitches once, 2 stitches 4 times, 1 stitch 22 times and 4 stitches twice.
After 24 in (61 cm) from the beginning, bind off the remaining stitches.

Finishing:
Join shoulder seams, easing the shoulder line to 3½ (4) in [9 (10) cm].
Pick up the required number of stitches around the neckline, work the Neckband Pattern and bind off.
Fold the neckband along the turning round and sew in place.
Sew side and sleeve seams.
Set in sleeves, easing them slightly.
