Lace Summer Sweater with Crochet Edging
How to knit the Summer Sweater with Lace Patterns:
Sizes: US 10–12 / UK 14–16 / EU 40–42.
Materials:
500 grams of yarn (100% cotton, 109 yards per 50 grams), straight knitting needles and circular knitting needles US 4 (3.5 millimeters), and crochet hook US E-4 (3.5 millimeters).
Stocking Stitch:
Worked flat:
Right-side rows: knit stitches.
Wrong-side rows: purl stitches.
Worked in the round: knit all stitches throughout.
Reverse Stocking Stitch:
Right-side rows: purl stitches.
Wrong-side rows: knit stitches.
Lace Pattern 1:
Multiple of 8 stitches + 1 stitch + 2 edge stitches.
Work according to Chart 1, which shows right-side rows only.
On wrong-side rows, purl all stitches and the yarn overs.
Begin with 1 edge stitch and the stitches before the pattern repeat, repeat the pattern throughout, end with the stitches after the pattern repeat and 1 edge stitch.
Work Rows 1 through 32 once.
Lace Pattern 2 (over 19 stitches):
Work according to Chart 2, which shows right-side rows only.
On wrong-side rows, purl all stitches and the yarn overs.
Work Rows 1 through 26 once.
Main Pattern:
Multiple of 19 stitches + 2 edge stitches.
Begin and end every row with 1 edge stitch.
Rows 1 through 26: * 19 stitches in Stocking Stitch, 19 stitches in Lace Pattern 2; repeat from * throughout.
Rows 27 through 52: * 19 stitches in Lace Pattern 2, 19 stitches in Stocking Stitch; repeat from * throughout.
Repeat Rows 1 through 52 throughout.
Pattern Sequence: 4 rows in Reverse Stocking Stitch, 32 rows in Lace Pattern 1, 4 rows in Reverse Stocking Stitch, 16 rows in Stocking Stitch.
Lace Edging:
Work according to Chart 3.
Across the width, begin with the stitches before the pattern repeat, repeat the pattern throughout, end with the stitches after the pattern repeat.
Work Rows 1 through 4 once.
Gauge: 20.5 stitches and 28 rows = 4 x 4 inches (10 x 10 centimeters).
Front:
Cast on 115 stitches and work in the Pattern Sequence. At Row 40 increase 1 stitch = 116 stitches.
For the armholes, after 8¾ inches (22 centimeters) = 64 rows from the cast-on edge, bind off 10 stitches at each side once = 96 stitches.
Continue straight.
For the neckline, after 15¾ inches (40 centimeters) = 116 rows from the cast-on edge, bind off the center 20 stitches and finish each side separately.
For neckline shaping, bind off at the inside edge in every second row: 3 stitches once, 2 stitches once, and 1 stitch five times.
After 18 inches (46 centimeters) = 134 rows from the cast-on edge, bind off the remaining 28 shoulder stitches on each side.
Back:
Work as for the Front, but with a higher neckline.
After 17¼ inches (44 centimeters) = 128 rows from the cast-on edge, bind off the center 30 stitches and finish each side separately.
For neckline shaping, bind off at the inside edge in every second row: 3 stitches once and 2 stitches once.
At the same height as the Front, bind off the remaining 28 shoulder stitches on each side.
Sleeves:
Cast on 99 stitches and work in the Pattern Sequence, arranging the Main Pattern so that the flower motif is centered on the sleeve.
After 9 inches (23 centimeters) = 66 rows from the cast-on edge, bind off all stitches.
Finishing:
Crochet 118 single crochet stitches evenly along the lower edge of the Front and Back (Row 1 of Chart 3), then work the Lace Edging.
Crochet 100 single crochet stitches evenly along the lower edge of each sleeve and also work the Lace Edging.
Sew the shoulder seams and side seams. Sew the sleeve seams and set in the sleeves.
Using the circular needles, pick up approximately 93 stitches around the neckline and work 1½ inches (4 centimeters) in Stocking Stitch.
Bind off all stitches, fold the neckband to the inside and sew it in place.
