Lace Sweater Knitting Pattern
How to knit the lace sweater:
Sizes: US 4/6 (US 8/10) US 12/14
Materials:
500 (550) 600 g yarn (100% cotton, 125 m/50 g = approx. 137 yd/1.76 oz); straight knitting needles 3.5 mm (US 4); circular knitting needles 3 mm (US 2.5).
Stockinette stitch, in the round: work only knit stitches.
Lace pattern: number of stitches is a multiple of 9 + 2 edge stitches.
Work according to the chart, which shows right-side rows only.
On wrong-side rows, work the stitches as they appear, purl the yarn overs; work 2 consecutive yarn overs as 1 purl stitch and 1 purl through the back loop.
Between the edge stitches, repeat the pattern stitches; work rows 1 through 24 once.
Lace stripe:
Right-side rows: * knit 2 stitches together, yarn over twice, repeat from *.
Wrong-side rows: purl the stitches and yarn overs, dropping 1 yarn over.
Pattern sequence: * 24 rows of the lace pattern, 2 rows of the lace stripe, repeat from *.
Gauge: 22 stitches and 28.5 rows = 10 x 10 cm (4 x 4 inches).
Back:
Cast on 119 (128) 137 stitches and work following the pattern sequence.
After 59 cm = 168 rows (23.25 inches = 168 rows) 61 cm = 174 rows (24 inches = 174 rows) from the cast-on edge, bind off the center 19 (20) 25 stitches for the neckline and finish both sides separately.
For the neckline shaping, bind off from the inner edge every 2nd row 1 time 8 stitches and 1 time 4 stitches.
After 61 cm = 174 rows (24 inches = 174 rows) 63 cm = 180 rows (24.75 inches = 180 rows) from the cast-on edge, bind off the remaining 38 (42) 44 shoulder stitches.
Front:
Work as for the back, but with a deeper neckline.
For this, after 53 cm = 150 rows (20.75 inches = 150 rows) 55 cm = 156 rows (21.75 inches = 156 rows) from the cast-on edge, bind off the center 17 (18) 23 stitches, then bind off every 2nd row 2 times 4 stitches, 1 time 2 stitches and 3 times 1 stitch.
Sleeves:
Cast on 56 stitches for each sleeve and work following the pattern sequence.
At the same time, increase on both sides for the sleeve shaping 27 times 1 stitch every 4th row (28 times 1 stitch every 4th row and 1 time 1 stitch in the next 2nd row) 26 times 1 stitch every 4th row and 5 times 1 stitch every 2nd row, working the increased stitches into the pattern = 110 (114) 118 stitches.
After 41 cm = 116 rows (16.25 inches = 116 rows) from the lower edge, bind off all stitches.
Finishing:
Work the shoulder seams.
Pick up 112 (114) 124 stitches around the neckline with circular needles, work 5 cm (2 inches) in stockinette stitch and bind off all stitches loosely.
Set in the sleeves, work the side seams and sleeve seams.
