Lace Sweater with Cables
How to knit the lace sweater with cables:
Sizes: US 8–10 / UK 12–14 (US 14–16 / UK 18–20)
Materials:
600 (650) g yarn (50 percent cotton, 50 percent polyacrylic, 140 m/50 g). Knitting needles 3.5 mm and 4 mm (US 4 and US 6), and circular needles 3.5 mm (US 4).
Neckband worked in the round: number of stitches divisible by 9.
Round 1 and round 3: work alternately 4 knit stitches and 5 purl stitches.
Round 2 and all even-numbered rounds: work the stitches as they appear.
Round 5: cross 4 stitches to the left (= slip 2 stitches onto a cable needle and hold in front of the work, work 2 knit stitches, then work the stitches from the cable needle as knit stitches), work 5 purl stitches, repeat from *.
Work rounds 1 to 6 once, then repeat rounds 3 to 6.
Main pattern: at the beginning, number of stitches divisible by 15 + 2 edge stitches; from row 13 onward, divisible by 16 + 2 edge stitches.
Work according to the chart, which shows only right-side rows.
On wrong-side rows, work the stitches as they appear; work twisted knit stitches as twisted purl stitches; purl the yarn overs.
Begin with 1 edge stitch, repeat the pattern repeat throughout, and end with 1 edge stitch.
Work rows 1 to 56 once, then repeat rows 29 to 56.
Gauge: 23 stitches and 30 rows = 10 x 10 cm (4 x 4 inches).
Back:
Cast on 122 (137) stitches with 3.5 mm needles (US 4) and work in the main pattern.
From row 13 onward, change to 4 mm needles (US 6).
After the increases in row 13, there are 130 (146) stitches.
For the neckline, after 60 cm = 180 rows (23.6 inches) from the beginning, bind off the center 52 stitches and finish both sides separately.
For the rounding, at the inner edge, bind off 2 times 3 stitches every second row.
After 62.5 cm = 188 rows (24.6 inches) from the beginning, bind off the remaining 33 (41) shoulder stitches.
Front:
Work as for the back, but with a deeper neckline.
For this, after 54.5 cm = 164 rows (21.5 inches) from the beginning, bind off the center 38 stitches, then at the inner edge decrease every second row 2 times 3 stitches, 2 times 2 stitches, and 3 times 1 stitch.
Sleeve:
Cast on 52 (60) stitches with 3.5 mm needles (US 4) and work in the main pattern as follows: 1 edge stitch, work once the last 12 (1) stitches of the pattern repeat, work the pattern repeat 2 (3) times, work once the first 8 (12) stitches of the pattern repeat, 1 edge stitch.
From row 13 onward, change to 4 mm needles (US 6).
After the increases in row 13, there are 56 (64) stitches.![]()
At the same time, for the sleeve shaping, increase on both sides from row 13 onward, every 4th row, 30 times 1 stitch = 116 (124) stitches.
Work the new stitches into the pattern.
After 42.5 cm = 128 rows (16.7 inches) from the beginning, bind off all stitches.
Finishing:
Work the shoulder seams.
With circular needles, pick up 153 stitches evenly around the neckline and work a neckband 5 cm high (2 inches), while in round 10, in each purl section, work 2 stitches together purlwise.
Bind off the remaining 136 stitches following the pattern.
Work the side seams and sleeve seams, then set in the sleeves.
