Long Sweater in Lace Diamond Pattern
How to knit a sweater in lace diamond pattern:
Sizes: S (M/L/XL) XXL (US/UK sizes).
Material: 600 (700) 800 g yarn (100% mercerized cotton, 214 m/100 g), circular knitting needles size 3.5 mm (US size 4).
Lace Diamond Pattern: work with a multiple of 18 stitches + 17 + 2 edge stitches.
Work according to the chart, which shows only right-side rows.
On wrong-side rows, work all stitches and yarn overs in purl.
Gauge: 21 stitches and 30 rows = 10 x 10 cm (4 x 4 in).


Back:
Cast on 109 (127) 145 sts and work 1 wrong-side row in knit stitches.
Continue in lace diamonds, distributing the stitches as follows: 1 edge stitch, 8 sts before the repeat, 5 (6) 7 times the pattern repeat of 18 sts, 9 sts after the repeat, and 1 edge stitch.
At 7 cm (2¾ in) from the cast-on, decrease 1 st at each side, then repeat this decrease 5 more times at intervals of 7 cm (2¾ in).
At 51 (56) 59 cm [20 (22) 23 in] from the cast-on, for the armholes bind off 2 sts 5 (6) 7 times at each side, in every 2nd row.
At 19 (21) 22 cm [7½ (8¼) 8¾ in] from the beginning of the armhole, continue the lace diamond pattern at each side, and work the middle 37 sts in stockinette stitch for 4 rows.
At 20 (22) 23 cm [8 (8¾) 9 in] from the beginning of the armhole, bind off the remaining 22 (29) 36 sts for the shoulder.
Front:
Work as for the back.
At 7 cm (2¾ in) from the cast-on, decrease 1 st at each side, then repeat this decrease 5 more times at intervals of 7 cm (2¾ in).
At the same time, after 6 (7) 7 repeats of rows 1–24 of the pattern, and also for sizes S (M/XL), work additionally rows 1–10 once more.
For the neckline, bind off the center 1 st and continue each side separately.
Along the neckline edge always work 2 knit sts. At the inner edge, bind off 1 st 16 times in every 2nd row.
At the right side of the neckline, knit 2 sts together. At the left side, work 2 sts together with slip-slip-pass-over decrease (= slip 1 st knitwise, knit 1 st, then pass the slipped st over the knitted st).
At 20 (22) 23 cm [8 (8¾) 9 in] from the beginning of the armhole, bind off the remaining 22 (29) 36 sts for the shoulder.

Sleeves:
Cast on 43 (45) 49 sts and work 1 wrong-side row in knit stitches.
Continue in lace diamonds, placing the stitches so that the pattern is centered.
At 8 cm (3 in) from the cast-on, for the sleeve shaping increase 1 st at each side. Then increase 1 st at each side in every 6th row 13 (12) 11 times, and in every 4th row 4 (11) 8 times, incorporating the new stitches into the pattern.
At 44 (46) 48 cm [17¼ (18) 19 in] from the cast-on, bind off at each side in every 2nd row 2 sts once, then 1 st 6 (8) 10 times.
Finishing:
Sew the shoulder seams.
Sew the side seams and the sleeve seams. Set in the sleeves.
