Patent Sweater

How to knit the Patent Stitch Sweater:
Sizes: S (M) = US 6–8 (10–12), UK 10–12 (14–16).
Materials:
600–650 g yarn (100% merino lambswool, 145 m/50 g); knitting needles 3.25 mm (US 3); one circular needle 3.25 mm (US 3), 40 cm long.

Ribbing, mock turtleneck:
Work in Ribbing Pattern: *1 purl stitch, 1 knit stitch*, repeat throughout.
Patent Stitch Pattern:
On right-side rows, work according to Charts 1 and 2.
On wrong-side rows, work the stitches as they appear.
In Chart 2, begin each row with the edge stitch, repeat the stitch repeat throughout, end with the stitch after the repeat and 1 edge stitch.
After Row 4, repeat Rows 3 and 4 throughout. In Chart 1, repeat Rows 1 to 26 throughout.

Gauge:
28 stitches and 54 rows = 10 × 10 cm / 4 × 4 inches.
Back:
Cast on 153–165 stitches for the ribbing. After 8 rows = 2 cm / ¾ inch from cast-on, work in the Patent Stitch Pattern.
After 178 rows = 33 cm / 13 inches from ribbing, begin raglan shaping. Decrease 1 stitch on each side: knit together the 6th and 7th stitches on the left side and work the 6th and 7th stitches from the end together through the back loops on the right side.
Repeat these decreases 54–60 times in every 2nd row.
After 110–122 rows = 20–22.5 cm / 8–9 inches from beginning of raglan shaping, place the remaining 43 stitches on a stitch holder for the neckline.
Front:
Work the same as the back, but after the ribbing, work the central 39 stitches following Chart 1.
For the neckline, after 94–106 rows = 17–19.5 cm / 6¾–7¾ inches from raglan shaping, place the central 17 stitches on a stitch holder.
Finish each side separately, binding off on the inner edge in every 2nd row: 2 times 3 stitches, 2 times 2 stitches, and 3 times 1 stitch.

Sleeves:
Cast on 57 stitches for the ribbing. After 8 rows = 2 cm / ¾ inch from cast-on, work as follows: 1 edge stitch, 8 stitches in Patent Stitch Pattern, 39 stitches according to Chart 1 (center), end mirrored on the other side.
For sleeve shaping, increase 1 stitch on each side in Row 5 from ribbing, then 33–24 times in every 6th row and 0–15 times in every 4th row = 125–137 stitches.
After 216 rows = 40 cm / 16 inches from ribbing, work raglan shaping on both sides as for the back.
Place the remaining 15 stitches on a stitch holder.
Finishing:
Sew the seams according to the schematic; numbers indicate centimeters. Set in the sleeves.
Along the neckline, using the circular needle, pick up an additional 20 stitches on each side in addition to the stitches from the holders = 130 stitches.
Work 7 cm / 2¾ inches in ribbing for the mock turtleneck. Bind off the stitches.
