Pattern Mix Sweater with V-Neck
How to knit a sweater in a pattern mix with V-neck:
Sizes: US 8/10 (UK 12/14)
Materials:
24.7 oz (700 g) yarn (70% modal, 30% linen, 74 yd/1.76 oz). Knitting needles US 7 and 8 (4.5 mm and 5 mm) and circular needles US 7 (4.5 mm).
Stocking Stitch: knit stitches on right-side rows and purl stitches on wrong-side rows.
Textured Pattern: number of stitches multiple of 20 + 3 + 2 edge stitches.
Work according to chart 1, which shows right-side rows only.
On wrong-side rows, work the stitches as they appear, purl the yarn overs.
Begin with an edge stitch and the stitches before the repeat, repeat the pattern repeat, end with the stitches after the repeat and an edge stitch.
Work rows 1–56 once, then rows 45–56 three times = total 92 rows, then rows 93–102 once and repeat rows 95–102 throughout.
Decreases for the V-neck shaping:
Work according to chart 2, which shows right-side rows only.
On wrong-side rows, purl all stitches and yarn overs.
The chart shows 24 stitches of the right half in the finished form.
At the right edge of the work begin with an edge stitch and then decrease according to the chart.
Work rows 95–142 once.
Diamond Pattern (over 21 stitches):
Work according to chart 3, which shows right-side rows only.
On wrong-side rows, work the stitches as they appear, purl the yarn overs.
Work rows 1–36 once, then repeat rows 3–36.
Gauge: 17.5 stitches and 23 rows = 4 x 4 inches (10 x 10 cm).
Back:
Cast on 85 stitches with US 7 (4.5 mm) needles, work 1 wrong-side row knit.
Then work with US 8 (5 mm) needles in the textured pattern.
For armholes after 15.7 inches (40 cm) = 92 rows from the beginning bind off 2 stitches once on both sides, then in every 2nd row bind off 2 stitches once and 1 stitch twice = 73 stitches.
For shoulder shaping after 23.6 inches (60 cm) = 138 rows from the beginning bind off 7 stitches once on both sides, then in every 2nd row bind off 7 stitches twice.
At the same time with the first decrease for the shoulder slope bind off the middle 21 stitches for the neckline and finish both sides separately.
At the inner edge bind off 5 stitches once in the next 2nd row.
After 24.4 inches (62 cm) = 142 rows from the beginning all stitches are bound off.
Front:
Begin as for the back, but with a V-neck.
For this after 16.1 inches (41 cm) from the beginning = in row 94 (wrong-side row) from the center stitch work 2 stitches (1 purl stitch and 1 twisted purl stitch).
Then divide the work in half, leave the first 41 stitches unworked and continue first on the right finished half over 41 stitches, working the decreases (a total of 16 stitches) according to the chart.
Work the armhole and shoulder decreases at the left edge as described for the back.
Then finish the left half in mirror image, at the division edge instead of slip-slip-pass-over work knit 2 together and instead of slip-slip-pass-over over 3 stitches work knit 3 together.
Sleeve:
Cast on 47 stitches with US 7 (4.5 mm) needles, work 1 wrong-side row knit.
Then work with US 8 (5 mm) needles in the following distribution: edge stitch, 12 stitches Stocking Stitch, 21 stitches Diamond Pattern, 12 stitches Stocking Stitch, edge stitch.
For sleeve shaping after 7.5 inches (19 cm) = 44 rows from the beginning increase 1 stitch once on both sides, then increase 1 stitch 3 times in every 10th row, 3 times in every 6th row and 2 times in every 4th row in Stocking Stitch = 65 stitches.
For sleeve cap after 18.1 inches (46 cm) = 106 rows from the beginning bind off 3 stitches once on both sides, then in every 2nd row bind off 2 stitches once, 1 stitch 12 times, 2 stitches once and 3 stitches once.
After 23.6 inches (60 cm) = 138 rows from the beginning bind off the remaining 21 stitches.
Finishing:
Join the shoulder seams.
With circular needles pick up 98 stitches along the neckline, work 1 round purl and bind off all stitches knitwise.
Sew in the sleeves, join side seams and sleeve seams.
