Raglan Sweater with Central Cable

How to knit the Raglan Sweater with Central Cable:
Size: UK 20/ US 16
Material:
600 g turquoise medium-weight wool yarn (length 400 m/100 g), knitting needles No. 2.5 (US 1½ / UK 12) and No. 3 (US 2½ / UK 11), one circular needle No. 2.5 (US 1½ / UK 12).
Striped Pattern (needles No. 2.5):
Work alternately 2 knit stitches and 2 purl stitches.
Gauge: 27 stitches = 10 cm (4 in).
Wide Striped Pattern (needles No. 3):
Work following Chart 1.
Row 1 shows the row after the ribbing.
Repeat Rows 3 and 4 throughout.
In rounds, work as Row 3.
Gauge: 33 stitches (28 stitches for the band) and 30 rows or rounds = 10 × 10 cm (4 × 4 in).
Bobble Pattern (needles No. 3):
Work following Chart 2.
Row 1 shows the row after the ribbing.
On wrong-side rows, work the stitches as they appear and purl together the five bobble stitches.
Repeat Rows 3 to 10 throughout.
Within the vertical lines one pattern repeat is shown.
The stitches outside the lines belong to the striped pattern or to the central cable.
Gauge: 22 stitches and 30 rows = 10 × 10 cm (4 × 4 in).
Central Cable (needles No. 3):
Work following Chart 3.
Row 1 shows the row after the ribbing.
On wrong-side rows, work the stitches as they appear.
Work Rows 5 to 8 as Rows 3 to 4.
Repeat Rows 3 to 10 throughout.
Gauge: 16 stitches = 4 cm / 30 rows = 10 cm (4 in).

Front and Back:
Cast on 146 stitches (= 54 cm / 21¼ in).
Work 9 cm (3½ in) / 32 rows in striped pattern.
Then from the side edge work 13 cm (43 stitches) in wide striped pattern, 16 cm (35 stitches) in bobble pattern, 4 cm (16 stitches) central cable, 16 cm (35 stitches) in bobble pattern, and 13 cm (43 stitches) in wide striped pattern.
After 29 cm (11½ in) / 88 rows begin raglan shaping.
Work 23 stitches of the wide striped pattern as raglan line on each side.
For raglan shaping, decrease 2 stitches 10 times and 1 stitch 32 times on every second row.
At the beginning of the row, slip 1 stitch as if to knit, knit 2 stitches together (or 1 stitch for single decrease) and pass the slipped stitch over.
At the end of the row, knit together the last 2 (or 1) stitches with the first stitch of the raglan line.
Bind off all stitches.
For the back, omit the central cable and work 83 stitches in bobble pattern between the wide striped sections.
For raglan shaping, decrease 2 stitches 10 times and 1 stitch 37 times.

Back Neckline:
From the outer edge, bind off 5 stitches 5 times and continue raglan shaping as before.

Sleeves:
Cast on 54 stitches (= 20 cm / 8 in).
Work 7 cm (2¾ in) / 24 rows in striped pattern, then continue in wide striped pattern.

Sleeve Increases:
On every right-side row, increase alternately 2 times by 1 stitch and 1 time by 2 stitches = 60 stitches.

Raglan Decreases:
On every row, decrease 1 stitch, but omit the decrease every 8th row.

Neckline:
Bind off 17 stitches once and 18 stitches once.

Double Neck Band:
Cast on 145 stitches (= 52 cm / 20½ in).
Work 10 cm (4 in) / 30 rounds in wide striped pattern.
Place stitches on a thread.
Sew all pieces together.
Sew the neckband stitches to the neckline edge using overcast stitches, fold to the inside and sew in place.
