Summer Lace Diamond Top
How to knit the Lace Diamond Top:
Sizes: UK 10/12 (14/16), US 6/8 (10/12), EU 38/40 (42/44)
Materials:
600 (700) g (21.2 (24.7) ounces) viscose and cotton yarn (115 yards per 1.76 ounces); US 2½–4 (3.0–3.5 mm) and US 4–6 (3.5–4.0 mm) circular knitting needles.
Garter Stitch, using US 2½–4 (3.0–3.5 mm) needles: work all stitches knit on right-side and wrong-side rows; in the round: alternate 1 round knit stitches and 1 round purl stitches.
Work all following patterns using US 4–6 (3.5–4.0 mm) needles.
Stocking Stitch: right-side rows - knit stitches; wrong-side rows - purl stitches.
Vertical Lace Panel (over 3 stitches):
Row 1: yarn over, slip 1 stitch as if to knit, knit 2 together and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted together stitches, yarn over.
Rows 2 and 4: purl stitches.
Row 3: knit stitches.
Repeat these 4 rows throughout.
Main Pattern: * 3 stitches Vertical Lace Panel, 10 stitches Stocking Stitch, repeat from * throughout.
Lace Diamond Pattern:
Work according to the chart, which shows right-side rows only.
On wrong-side rows, purl all stitches and the yarn overs.
Gauge:
Main Pattern: 24.5 stitches and 24.5 rows = 4 x 4 inches (10 x 10 cm);
Lace Diamond Pattern: 23.5 stitches and 37.5 rows = 4 x 4 inches (10 x 10 cm).
Front/Back:
Cast on 110 (119) stitches and work 1½ inches (4 cm) in Garter Stitch, increasing 13 stitches evenly across the last row = 123 (132) stitches.
Continue as follows: 1 edge stitch, 7 (5) stitches Stocking Stitch, 107 (120) stitches Main Pattern, 7 (5) stitches Stocking Stitch, 1 edge stitch.
For the side shaping, increase 1 Stocking Stitch at each side once in every 11th row, then 1 Stocking Stitch 6 times in every 13th row = 137 (146) stitches.
At 16¼ (16½) inches (41 (42) cm) from the cast-on edge, continue in the Lace Diamond Pattern.
At 26½ (27¼) inches (67.5 (69.5) cm) from the cast-on edge, work 2 inches (5 cm) in Garter Stitch, then bind off all stitches.
Finishing:
Sew the shoulder seams for 6¾ (7½) inches (17 (19) cm) on each side.
Sew the side seams, leaving the upper 10¼ (10¾) inches (26 (27) cm) open for the armholes.
Pick up stitches evenly around each armhole, work ⅝ inch (1.5 cm) in Garter Stitch, then bind off all stitches.
