Summer Lace Vest
How to knit the Lace Vest:
Sizes: US 4/6 (12/14) 20/22, UK 8/10 (16/18) 24/26, EU 34/36 (40/42) 48/50
Materials:
350 (450) 500 g (12.3 (15.9) 17.6 oz) yarn (100% cotton; 153 yd/1.76 oz); US 4 (3.5 mm) knitting needles and US C-2 (3 mm) crochet hook.
Lace Pattern: work over a multiple of 12 stitches + 1 + 2 edge stitches.
Work according to the chart, which shows right-side rows only.
On wrong-side rows, purl all stitches and yarn overs.
Begin with 1 edge stitch and the stitches before the pattern repeat, work the pattern repeat throughout, end with the stitches after the pattern repeat and 1 edge stitch.
Work Rows 1–26 five times, then work Rows 1–14 once, then repeat Rows 5–14 throughout.
Gauge: 28.5 stitches and 33.5 rows = 4 x 4 in (10 x 10 cm).
Back:
Cast on 147 (171) 195 stitches and work in the Lace Pattern.
After 15¾ in = 134 rows (40 cm) from the cast-on edge, shape the armholes by binding off on both sides in every second row 4 stitches once, 3 stitches once, 2 stitches twice and 1 stitch once = 123 (147) 171 stitches.
After 24½ in = 208 rows (25¼ in = 214 rows) 26 in = 220 rows (62 cm (64 cm) 66 cm) from the cast-on edge, bind off the center 39 (43) 47 stitches for the neck opening and finish each side separately.
For the neck shaping, bind off from the inside edge in every second row 3 stitches once and 2 stitches once.
After 25¼ in = 214 rows (26 in = 220 rows) 26¾ in = 226 rows (64 cm (66 cm) 68 cm) from the cast-on edge, bind off the remaining 37 (47) 57 shoulder stitches on each side.
Left Front:
Cast on 75 (87) 99 stitches and work in the Lace Pattern.
After 14½ in = 124 rows (15¼ in = 130 rows) 16¼ in = 136 rows (37 cm (39 cm) 41 cm) from the cast-on edge, shape the neckline on the left side by binding off 1 stitch 18 times alternately in every second and fourth row (1 stitch 26 times alternately in every second and fourth row and 1 stitch twice in every fourth row) 1 stitch twice in every second row and 1 stitch 28 times alternately in every second and fourth row.
At the same time, shape the armhole on the right side as for the Back.
Bind off the remaining 37 (47) 57 shoulder stitches at the same height as the Back.
Right Front: Work as the mirror image of the Left Front.
Finishing:
Join the shoulder seams.
Using the crochet hook, work 2 rows of single crochet around the front edges, neckline and armholes, then work 1 row of reverse single crochet (crab stitch).
Join the side seams.
