How to knit a Sweater in a combination of lace patterns:
Sizes: US 6/8 (US 10/12) US 14/16 — UK 10/12 (UK 14/16) UK 18/20
Materials:
600 (650) 700 g yarn (60 percent cotton, 40 percent polyacrylic, 115 m/50 g); straight needles 3.5 mm and 4 mm (US 4 and US 6); circular needles 3.5 mm (US 4).
Work all patterns with 4 mm (US 6) needles.
Garter stitch: right-side and wrong-side rows knit.
Pattern A (initially 7 stitches wide):
Work according to chart 1, which shows right-side and wrong-side rows.
Repeat rows 1 to 10.
Pattern B (11 stitches wide):
Work according to chart 2, which shows right-side rows only.
On wrong-side rows, purl all stitches and yarn overs.
Repeat rows 1 to 12.
Pattern C (11 stitches wide):
Work as Pattern B, but according to chart 3.
Work rows 1 to 10 once, then repeat rows 3 to 10.
Gauge: 17 stitches and 29.5 rows = 10 x 10 cm (4 x 4 inches).
Back:
With 3.5 mm (US 4) needles, cast on 91 (99) 107 stitches and work 1 wrong-side row knit.
This row is not counted in the further measurements.
Then work as follows: * edge stitch, 3 (4) 5 stitches in garter stitch, 7 stitches Pattern A, 3 (4) 5 stitches in garter stitch, 11 stitches Pattern B, 3 (4) 5 stitches in garter stitch, 11 stitches Pattern C, 3 (4) 5 stitches in garter stitch, ** 7 stitches Pattern A, then work from ** to * symmetrically.
After 41 cm = 122 rows (40 cm = 118 rows) 39 cm = 114 rows from cast-on edge, bind off for armholes on both sides every 2nd row 1 time 5 stitches, 1 time 3 stitches and 1 time 1 stitch = 73 (81) 89 stitches.
After 63 cm = 186 rows from cast-on edge, bind off the center 21 (23) 25 stitches for the neckline and finish both sides separately.
For the neckline shaping, bind off at the inner edge every 2nd row 1 time 3 stitches and 1 time 1 stitch.
After 65 cm = 192 rows from cast-on edge, bind off the remaining 22 (25) 28 shoulder stitches on each side.

Front:
Work as for back, but with a V-shaped neckline.
For this, after 46 cm = 136 rows from cast-on edge, bind off the center stitch and finish both sides separately.
For the slope, bind off every 4th row 11 (12) 13 times 1 stitch as follows: at the right neckline edge, purl together the last stitch before Pattern A and the first stitch of Pattern A, at the left neckline edge, purl together the last stitch of Pattern A and the following stitch.
Bind off the outer 22 (25) 28 shoulder stitches on each side at the same height as the back, on the remaining 3 stitches of Pattern A on each side continue working the back neckline bands, increasing 1 stitch at the outer edge for the edge stitch.
At a band height of 8 (8.5) 9 cm (3 1/8 (3 3/8) 3 1/2 inches), bind off all stitches.
Sleeves:
With 3.5 mm (US 4) needles, cast on 43 (47) 51 stitches and work 1 wrong-side row knit, then work as follows: edge stitch, 3 (4) 5 stitches in garter stitch, 11 stitches Pattern C, 3 (4) 5 stitches in garter stitch, 7 stitches Pattern A, 3 (4) 5 stitches in garter stitch, 11 stitches Pattern C, 3 (4) 5 stitches in garter stitch, edge stitch.
At the same time, increase for sleeve shaping on both sides from the cast-on edge every 10th row 2 times and every 8th row 11 times 1 stitch = 69 (73) 77 stitches, working the first 11 increases into Pattern C, work the remaining stitches in garter stitch.
After 39 cm = 116 rows from cast-on edge, bind off for the sleeve cap on both sides every 2nd row 1 time 5 stitches, 1 time 3 stitches, 11 times 1 stitch, 3 times 2 stitches and 2 times 3 stitches.
After 51.5 cm = 152 rows from cast-on edge, bind off the remaining 7 (11) 15 stitches.
Finishing:
Work shoulder seams.
Sew the front bands to the neckline of the back and sew the short sides of the bands together.
Along the neckline, pick up 110 (114) 118 stitches from the inner edge with circular needles, work 1 round purl, then bind off all stitches knitwise.
Set in the sleeves. Work side seams and sleeve seams.
