How to knit the sweater in a mix of patterns:
Sizes: US 8–10 (12–14) / UK 10–12 (14–16)
Material:
600 (650) g of natural-colored yarn (40% polyamide, 35% cotton, 25% polyacrylic, 90 m/50 g); straight knitting needles size 7 mm (US 10.75, UK 2); circular needles size 6 mm (US 10, UK 4).
Ribbing Pattern: work alternately 2 knit stitches and 2 purl stitches.
Garter Stitch: knit all stitches in every row.
Stockinette Stitch: knit on right-side rows, purl on wrong-side rows.
Lace Pattern:
Number of stitches is a multiple of 4 + 3 (1) + 2 edge stitches.
Rows 1–4: stockinette stitch.
Row 5: edge stitch, *knit 2 together, yarn over, knit 2*, repeat from * to *, knit 2 together, yarn over, knit 1 (3), edge stitch.
Row 6: purl all stitches and yarn overs.
Rows 7 and 8: stockinette stitch.
Zigzag Pattern:
Number of stitches is a multiple of 14 + 5 (11) + 2 edge stitches.
Work according to Chart 1, which shows only right-side rows.
On wrong-side rows, purl all stitches and yarn overs.
Begin with 1 edge stitch and the stitches from arrow A (B), repeat the pattern throughout, end with the stitches to arrow C (D) and 1 edge stitch.
Work once from row 1 to row 12.
Rosehip Pattern:
Number of stitches is a multiple of 4 + 2 edge stitches.
Work according to Chart 2, which shows both right-side and wrong-side rows.
Begin with 1 edge stitch, repeat the pattern throughout, end with the stitches after the repeat and 1 edge stitch.
Repeat rows 1–4 throughout.
Pattern Sequence:
4 rows in Garter Stitch, 8 rows in Lace Pattern, 6 rows in Garter Stitch, 12 rows in Zigzag Pattern, 8 rows in Lace Pattern, 4 rows in Garter Stitch, 16 rows in Rosehip Pattern, 4 rows in Garter Stitch, *8 rows in Lace Pattern, 6 rows in Garter Stitch, 12 rows in Zigzag Pattern, 4 rows in Garter Stitch*, repeat from * to * once = total 122 rows.
Gauge:
In the given pattern sequence, 16 stitches and 25.5 rows = 10 x 10 cm (4 x 4 in).
Back/Front:
Cast on 77 (83) stitches using the long-tail cast-on method and work in the given pattern sequence, increasing in the first row of the Rosehip Pattern for size 36/38 by 1 stitch, and decreasing by 1 stitch for size 40/42 = 78 (82) stitches.
In the last row of this pattern, decrease 1 stitch for size 36/38 and increase 1 stitch for size 40/42 = 77 (83) stitches.
After 41.5 cm = 106 rows (40 cm = 102 rows) from the cast-on edge, bind off for the armholes on both sides in every 2nd row 1 time 2 (3) stitches and 7 (9) times 1 stitch = 59 stitches.
After 48 cm = in the 122nd row from the cast-on edge, bind off 1 edge stitch on each side and place the remaining 57 shoulder stitches on hold.
Sleeves:
Cast on 45 stitches using the long-tail cast-on method and work in the given pattern sequence, positioning the Zigzag Pattern so that the last stitch of the repeat is centered on the sleeve.
At the same time, for sleeve shaping, increase on both sides every 12th row 3 times and every 10th row 6 times (every 8th row 12 times) by 1 stitch = 63 (69) stitches, incorporating the increased stitches into the pattern.
After 41.5 cm = 106 rows (40 cm = 102 rows) from the cast-on edge, shape the sleeve caps on both sides as for the back = 45 stitches.
After 48 cm = in the 122nd row from the cast-on edge, bind off 1 edge stitch on each side and place the remaining 43 stitches on hold.
Finishing:
Sew the seams.
Place all held stitches on the circular needles = 200 stitches and work the yoke in the Ribbing Pattern.
At a yoke height of 7 cm = 18 rounds, to reduce the width, knit 2 knit stitches together across the round = 150 stitches, then continue working *1 knit, 1 purl*.
At a yoke height of 14 cm = 36 rounds, bind off all stitches in pattern.
