Sweater in Fantasy Pattern
How to knit the sweater in fantasy pattern:
Sizes: EU 36-40 (42-46) = US 6-10 (12-16), UK 10-14 (16-20)
Materials:
800 (900) g yarn (100% polyacrylic, 140 m/50 g; approx. 153 yd/1.76 oz); straight knitting needles 7 mm (US 10.75) and circular knitting needles 6 mm (US 10).
The sweater is worked holding two strands together.
Stockinette stitch in the round: knit all stitches.
Reverse garter stitch in the round: alternately work 1 round purl stitches, 1 round knit stitches.
Fantasy pattern (main pattern): number of stitches divisible by 14 + 5 + 2 edge stitches.
Work according to the chart, which shows right-side and wrong-side rows; in the wrong-side rows not indicated, work the stitches as they appear, purl the yarn overs.
Begin with 1 edge stitch and the stitches before the repeat, repeat the pattern repeat throughout, end with the stitches after the repeat and 1 edge stitch.
Repeat rows 1 to 16.
Gauge: 14.5 stitches and 21.5 rows = 10 x 10 cm (4 x 4 in).
Back:
Cast on 77 (91) stitches and work in the main pattern.
After 37 cm = 80 rows (35 cm = 76 rows), measured from the cast-on edge, bind off 7 stitches at each side for the armholes = 63 (77) stitches.
After 57.5 cm = 124 rows (22.6 in = 124 rows) from the cast-on edge, bind off the center 21 stitches for the neckline and finish both sides separately.
For the rounding, bind off 3 stitches once at the inner edge in the next 2nd row.
After 59.5 cm = 128 rows (23.4 in = 128 rows) from the cast-on edge, bind off the remaining 18 (25) shoulder stitches on each side.
Front:
Work as for the back, but with a deeper neckline.
For this, after 53 cm = 114 rows (20.9 in = 114 rows) from the cast-on edge, bind off the center 9 stitches, then bind off in every 2nd row 3 stitches once, 2 stitches twice, and 1 stitch twice.
Sleeves:
Cast on 35 stitches and work in the main pattern.
At the same time, for the sleeve shaping, increase 1 stitch at each side from the cast-on edge 13 times in every 6th row and 2 times in every 4th row (for the larger size, 7 times in every 6th row and 11 times in every 4th row), working the increased stitches into the pattern = 65 (71) stitches.
After 45 cm = 96 rows (17.7 in = 96 rows) from the cast-on edge, bind off all stitches.
Finishing:
Close the shoulder seams.
Pick up 70 stitches around the neckline with circular knitting needles, work 3 rounds purl stitches, then work row 1 three times, row 11 four times, row 15 once, and row 1 three times of the main pattern, repeating the pattern repeat.
Then bind off the stitches purlwise, at the same time purling together 2 stitches evenly 8 times = 62 stitches.
Set in the sleeves and close the side seams and sleeve seams.
