Sweater in Lace and Cable Stitch
How to knit the Pullover in Lace and Cable Stitch:
Sizes: EU 42/44 (UK 14/16, US 10/12) and EU 46/48 (UK 18/20, US 14/16).
Materials:
700 (750) g yarn (100% cotton; 115 m / 50 g; approx. 126 yd / 1.76 oz). Knitting needles 3 mm (US 2.5) and 3.5 mm (US 4); circular needles 3 mm (US 2.5), 40 cm (16 in) long.
Ribbing Pattern, 3 mm (US 2.5) needles: alternately 1 knit stitch, 1 purl stitch.
Stockinette Stitch, 3.5 mm (US 4) needles: right-side rows knit stitches, wrong-side rows purl stitches.
Lace and Cable Stitch (over 16 stitches), 3.5 mm (US 4) needles:
work according to chart 1, which shows right-side rows only.
On wrong-side rows, purl all stitches and yarn overs.
Repeat rows 1–8 throughout.
Lace Stitch (over 23 stitches), 3.5 mm (US 4) needles:
work according to chart 2, which shows right-side rows only.
On wrong-side rows, purl all stitches and yarn overs.
Repeat rows 1–16 throughout.
Zigzag Stitch (over 23 stitches), 3.5 mm (US 4) needles:
work according to chart 3, which shows right-side rows only.
On wrong-side rows, work the stitches as they appear and purl the yarn overs.
Repeat rows 1–16 throughout.
Central Cable Pattern (over 49 stitches), 3.5 mm (US 4) needles:
work according to chart 4, which shows right-side rows only.
On wrong-side rows, purl all stitches and yarn overs; when working 2 consecutive yarn overs, purl the first yarn over and knit the second yarn over through the back loop.
Repeat rows 1–16 throughout.
Gauge:
Stockinette Stitch: 23 stitches and 31 rows = 10 x 10 cm (4 x 4 in).
Lace and Cable Stitch: 16 stitches = 7 cm (2.75 in) wide.
Lace Stitch and Zigzag Stitch: 23 stitches = 10.5 cm (4.1 in) wide.
Central Pattern: 49 stitches = 20 cm (7.9 in) wide.
Back:
Cast on 120 (128) stitches and work 4 cm (1.6 in) in Ribbing Pattern, increasing 17 stitches evenly in the last row = 137 (145) stitches.
Continue in the following distribution: edge stitch, 4 (8) stitches Stockinette Stitch, 16 stitches Lace and Cable Stitch, 23 stitches Lace Stitch, 49 stitches Central Pattern, 23 stitches Zigzag Stitch, 16 stitches Lace and Cable Stitch, 4 (8) stitches Stockinette Stitch, edge stitch.
At a height of 64 cm (25.2 in), for the neckline bind off the middle 25 stitches, then on both sides of them in every second row bind off 1 time 5 stitches and 1 time 2 stitches.
At a height of 66 cm (26 in) bind off the remaining shoulder stitches.
Front:
Work as for the Back, but with a deeper neckline.
For this, at a height of 59 cm (23.2 in) bind off the middle 13 stitches, then on both sides of them in every second row bind off 1 time 3 stitches, 3 times 2 stitches and 4 times 1 stitch.
At a height of 66 cm (26 in) bind off the remaining shoulder stitches.
Sleeves:
Cast on 54 stitches and work 4 cm (1.6 in) in Ribbing Pattern, increasing 19 stitches evenly in the last row = 73 stitches.
Continue in the following distribution: edge stitch, stitches 13–23 of Lace Stitch, 49 stitches Central Pattern, stitches 1–11 of Zigzag Stitch, edge stitch.
For sleeve shaping increase on both sides in every fourth row 26 times 1 stitch, then alternately in every second and fourth row 6 times 1 stitch = 137 stitches.
Extend the first 12 stitches on the right side with Lace Stitch and on the left side with Zigzag Stitch, work the following 16 stitches on each side in Lace and Cable Stitch, work the remaining increased stitches in Stockinette Stitch.
At a height of 45 cm (17.7 in) bind off all stitches.
Finishing:
Work the shoulder seams.
Along the neckline pick up 94 stitches with circular needles and work 3 cm (1.2 in) in Ribbing Pattern.
Work the side seams and sleeve seams. Set in the sleeves.
