Materials:
550 (600) 650 g yarn (78% viscose, 22% polyamide, 131 yds/1.76 oz); US 4 circular knitting needle (3.5 mm); crochet hook C-2 (3 mm).
Stockinette Stitch: Right-side rows: knit stitches, wrong-side rows: purl stitches.
Reverse Stockinette Stitch: Right-side rows: purl stitches, wrong-side rows: knit stitches.
Lace Cable Pattern (Main Pattern):
Work according to chart, which shows right-side rows only.
On wrong-side rows, work stitches as they appear; purl the yarn overs.
Work Rows 1–60 once, then repeat Rows 49–60 throughout.
Yoke Pattern, Front/Back:
Work as for the Main Pattern, but in Row 31 work the lace pattern only over the center pattern repeat (the stitches highlighted in blue); in all other pattern repeats work these stitches in Reverse Stockinette Stitch.
In Row 49 work 1 additional pattern repeat in Lace Pattern at each side, then in every 49th row work 1 additional pattern repeat in Lace Pattern at each side.
Gauge: 23 stitches and 26 rows = 4 x 4 in (10 x 10 cm).
Front:
Cast on 126 (138) 154 stitches, work 1 wrong-side row knit and 2 rows in Stockinette Stitch.
Continue with the Yoke Pattern, beginning at arrow A (B) C; for size 14/16 do not work the first and last yarn overs.
After 16.5 in (42 cm) from the cast-on edge, bind off 5 (11) 19 stitches at each side for the armholes.
After 24.5 (24.75) 24.75 in [62 (63) 63 cm] from the cast-on edge, bind off the center 18 (22) 22 stitches for the neckline and finish each side separately.
For neck shaping, bind off at the inner edge in every 2nd row: 1 x 4 stitches, 1 x 3 stitches, 1 x 2 stitches, 2 x 1 stitch, then in the following 4th row 1 x 1 stitch.
After 26.75 (27.25) 27.25 in [68 (69) 69 cm] from the cast-on edge, bind off the remaining shoulder stitches.
Back:
Work as for the Front, but after 26 (26.5) 26.5 in [66 (67) 67 cm] from the cast-on edge, bind off the center 32 (36) 36 stitches and in the next 2nd row bind off 1 x 5 stitches on each side of them.
Sleeves:
Cast on 58 stitches for each sleeve, work 1 wrong-side row knit and 2 rows in Stockinette Stitch.
Continue in the Main Pattern beginning at arrow D.
For sleeve shaping, increase at each side 6 (4) 4 times in every 4th row and 26 (30) 30 times in every 2nd row by 1 stitch, incorporating the increased stitches into the pattern.
When the sleeve measures 12.5 (13.5) 15 in [32 (34.5) 38 cm], bind off all stitches.
Finishing:
Sew shoulder seams.
Crochet around the neckline with 1 round of single crochet and 1 round of crab stitch (= single crochet worked from left to right).
