Sweater in Lace Pattern
How to knit the sweater in lace pattern:
Sizes: 40–42 (44–46 / 48–50) [UK 12–14 (16–18 / 20–22), US 8–10 (12–14 / 16–18)]
Materials:
650 (700 / 750) g yarn (35% cotton, 35% modal viscose, 30% viscose, 139 m / 50 g ≈ 152 yds / 1.76 oz). Straight needles 3 mm (US 2–3) and 3.5 mm (US 4); circular needles 3 mm (US 2–3), 40 cm / 16 in.
Ribbing Pattern, needles 3 mm: alternately 1 knit stitch, 1 purl stitch.
Lace Pattern I (main pattern I), needles 3.5 mm:
Work according to chart 1, which shows right-side rows only.
On wrong-side rows, work the stitches as they appear, work the yarn overs as indicated.
Begin with stitches before the pattern repeat, work the pattern repeat throughout, end with stitches after the pattern repeat.
Repeat rows 1 to 8 throughout.
Gauge in main pattern I: 30 stitches and 35 rows = 10 x 10 cm (4 x 4 in).
Lace Pattern II (main pattern II), needles 3.5 mm:
Work according to chart 2, which shows right-side rows only.
On wrong-side rows, work the stitches as they appear, purl the yarn overs.
Repeat rows 1 to 8 throughout.
Gauge: 17 stitches = 7 cm (2.75 in) wide.
Back:
Cast on 124 (132 / 140) stitches and work 5 cm (2 in) in Ribbing Pattern, increasing evenly 30 (34 / 38) stitches in the last row = 154 (166 / 178) stitches.
Continue as follows: 1 edge stitch, 12 stitches main pattern I, * 17 stitches main pattern II, 20 (24 / 28) stitches main pattern I, repeat from * 2 more times, 17 stitches main pattern II, 12 stitches main pattern I, 1 edge stitch.
At a height of 66 (67 / 68) cm (26 / 26.5 / 26.75 in) for the neckline, bind off the center 38 (42 / 46) stitches, then on both sides bind off in every 2nd row 2 times 3 stitches.
At a height of 68 (69 / 70) cm (26.75 / 27 / 27.5 in), bind off the remaining shoulder stitches.
Front:
Work as for the back, but at a height of 62 (63 / 64) cm (24.5 / 25 / 25.25 in) for the neckline, bind off the center 24 (28 / 32) stitches, then on both sides bind off in every 2nd row 2 times 3 stitches, 2 times 2 stitches, and 3 times 1 stitch.
At a height of 68 (69 / 70) cm (26.75 / 27 / 27.5 in), bind off the remaining shoulder stitches.
Sleeves:
Cast on 50 (54 / 58) stitches and work 7 cm (2.75 in) in Ribbing Pattern, increasing evenly 30 stitches in the last row = 80 (84 / 88) stitches.
Continue as follows: 1 edge stitch, 12 stitches main pattern I, 17 stitches main pattern II, 20 (24 / 28) stitches main pattern I, 17 stitches main pattern II, 12 stitches main pattern I, 1 edge stitch.
For sleeve shaping, increase on both sides in every 4th row 20 times 1 stitch, then alternately in every 2nd and 4th row 16 times 1 stitch = 152 (156 / 160) stitches.
Work the increased stitches in main pattern I.
At a height of 45 cm (17.75 in), bind off all stitches.
Finishing:
Work the seams and set in the sleeves.
Pick up 112 (120 / 128) stitches along the neckline with circular needles and work 3 cm (1.25 in) in Ribbing Pattern, then 3 cm (1.25 in) in knit stitches, then bind off all stitches.
