Sweater with Cable and Lace Panel
How to knit Sweater with Cable and Lace Panel:
Size: EU 38 (US 6 / UK 10)
Materials:
900 g yarn (55% acrylic, 45% cotton; 150 m / 65 g = approx. 164 yds / 2.3 oz); circular needles 4.0 mm (US 6 / UK 8), 80 cm / 32 in long; cable needle.
Wide Cable (20 sts):
Work according to chart 1, which shows right-side rows only.
On wrong-side rows, work the stitches as they appear.
Simple Cable (14 sts):
Work according to chart 2, which shows right-side rows only.
On wrong-side rows, work the stitches as they appear.
Ribbing Pattern 2/2: * purl 2, knit 2, repeat from *.
Seed Stitch Pattern:
Row 1: knit 1, * purl 1, knit 1, repeat from *.
Row 2: * purl 1, knit 1, repeat from *, end with purl 1.
Row 3: purl 1, * knit 1, purl 1, repeat from *.
Row 4: * knit 1, purl 1, repeat from *, end with knit 1.
Repeat these 4 rows throughout.
Lace Pattern:
Work according to chart 3, which shows right-side and wrong-side rows.
Repeat rows 1 and 2 throughout.
Leaf Pattern:
Work according to chart 4, which shows right-side rows only.
On wrong-side rows, work the stitches as they appear, purl the yarn overs or follow the chart symbols.
Gauge: 20 sts × 22 rows = 10 × 10 cm / 4 × 4 in.
Written Pattern:
Step 1 (Wide Cable Band – 2 pieces):
Cast on 20 sts and work 44 cm / 17.3 in in Wide Cable according to chart 1, then bind off.
Work a second identical band and set aside.
Step 2 (Simple Cable Band – 4 pieces):
Cast on 14 sts and work 30 cm / 11.8 in in Simple Cable according to chart 2, then bind off.
Work three more identical bands and set aside.
Step 3:
Back – lower part:
Cast on 90 sts and work 4 cm / 1.6 in in Ribbing Pattern 2/2.
On the next row continue in Seed Stitch Pattern.
After 12 cm / 4.7 in bind off all sts.
Sew this piece to the Wide Cable band using basting stitches.
Step 4:
Back – upper part:
Along the upper edge of the Wide Cable band pick up 91 sts and work 13 cm / 5.1 in in Lace Pattern according to chart 3, decreasing 1 stitch in the last row = 90 sts.
Then work 4 cm / 1.6 in in Seed Stitch Pattern.
At 39 cm / 15.4 in from the beginning start sleeve shaping: increase 65 sts at each side = 220 sts.
Work 5 cm / 2 in more in Seed Stitch Pattern.
Then continue in Leaf Pattern according to chart 4.
Work rows 1–20 of the chart.
At 52 cm / 20.5 in from the beginning bind off 75 sts at each side, and over the center 70 sts work 2 cm / 0.8 in in Ribbing Pattern 2/2 for the neckline, then bind off all sts.
Sew a Simple Cable band (30 cm / 11.8 in) to the upper part of each sleeve side and set the piece aside.
Front: Work as for Back.
Finishing:
Join the upper parts of the sleeves over the Simple Cable bands for 2 cm / 0.8 in and 1 cm / 0.4 in according to the schematic.
Follow the yellow and blue stars in the chart, they indicate the seam placement.
Join the sides of the neckline for 2 cm / 0.8 in over the Simple Cable band.
Sew the upper part of each sleeve for 16 cm / 6.3 in.
Cuffs:
Pick up 40 sts along the sleeve edge (26 cm / 10.2 in), work 3 cm / 1.2 in in Ribbing Pattern 2/2 and bind off all sts.
Work the second cuff in the same way.
Sew side seams (39 cm / 15.4 in) and lower sleeve seams (48 cm / 18.9 in).
