Sweater with Central Cable Panel

How to knit the Sweater with Central Cable Panel:
Size: US/UK 12–14.
Materials:
450 g yarn (30% wool, 70% acrylic; 100 g / 205 m; approx. 224 yd / 3.5 oz); straight needles 4 mm (US 6) and circular needles 3.5 mm (US 4).

Ribbing Pattern: * knit the 2nd stitch before the 1st stitch without dropping it from the left needle, then knit the 1st stitch and slip both stitches off the needle together, purl 1 stitch; repeat from *.
Checkerboard Pattern:
Row 1: * knit 2 stitches, purl 2 stitches; repeat from *.
Row 2 and Row 4: work the stitches as they appear.
Row 3: * purl 2 stitches, knit 2 stitches; repeat from *.
Repeat these 4 rows throughout.
Central Cable Panel:
Work according to the chart, which shows right-side rows only.
On wrong-side rows, work the stitches as they appear.
Repeat Rows 1–28 throughout.

Gauge: 17 stitches and 23 rows = 10 x 10 cm (4 x 4 in).

Back:
Cast on 79 stitches and work 12 cm (4.7 in) in Ribbing Pattern (= 25 repeats + 2 stitches + 2 edge stitches); in the last row increase 2 stitches = 81 stitches.
Continue in the following distribution: edge stitch, 20 stitches Checkerboard Pattern, 39 stitches Central Cable Panel, 23 stitches Checkerboard Pattern, edge stitch.
At 43 cm (17 in) from the beginning, for armholes bind off on both sides in every second row 3 stitches once, 2 stitches once, and 1 stitch three times = 65 stitches.
At 60 cm (23.6 in) from the beginning, for the neckline bind off the middle 23 stitches and finish both sides separately.
For rounding at the inner edge bind off in every second row 3 stitches once, 2 stitches once, and the remaining 16 shoulder stitches once.


Front:
Work as for the back, but with a deeper neckline.
For this, at 52 cm (20.5 in) from the ribbing bind off the middle 17 stitches and finish both sides separately.
For rounding of the neckline at the inner edge bind off in every second row 3 stitches once, 2 stitches once, and 1 stitch three times.
At 62 cm (24.4 in) from the beginning bind off the remaining 16 shoulder stitches.

Sleeves:
Cast on 37 stitches and work 10 cm (4 in) in Ribbing Pattern (= 11 repeats + 2 stitches + 2 edge stitches).
Continue in the following distribution: edge stitch, 6 stitches Checkerboard Pattern, 23 stitches Central Cable Panel (work once from stitch 3 to stitch 7 + once from stitch 14 to stitch 26 + once from stitch 4 to stitch 8), 6 stitches Checkerboard Pattern, edge stitch.
For sleeve shaping increase on both sides in every 6th row 12 times 1 stitch = 61 stitches.
At 50 cm (19.7 in) from the beginning, for the sleeve cap bind off on both sides 3 stitches, then in every second row 2 stitches once, 1 stitch ten times, 2 stitches twice, 3 stitches once, and the remaining 17 stitches once.
Finishing:
Join the shoulder seams.
From the right side pick up 96 stitches around the neckline with circular needles and work 2.5 cm (1 in) in Ribbing Pattern (= 32 repeats), then bind off.
Set in the sleeves. Join the side seams and sleeve seams.
