Sweater with Decorative Yoke
How to knit the sweater with a decorative yoke:
Sizes: US 6–8 / UK 10–12 and US 10–12 / UK 14–16.
Materials:
550 g yarn (100% pure wool, approx. 125 m / 50 g). Knitting needles size US 1.5 (2.5 mm) and US 4 (3.5 mm), one 16 in (40 cm) circular needle.
Ribbing Pattern, needles size US 1.5: work *1 knit stitch, 1 purl stitch* alternately.
Stockinette Stitch, needles size US 4: work knit stitches on right-side rows, purl stitches on wrong-side rows.
Double Seed Stitch, needles size US 4: work *1 knit stitch, 1 purl stitch* alternately, shifting the pattern every 2 rows.
Main Patterns 1 and 2, needles size US 4 (3.5 mm): work according to Charts 1 and 2.
The charts show only right-side rows.
On wrong-side rows, work the stitches as they appear, purl the yarn overs.
Gauge: 23 stitches and 31 rows = 10 × 10 cm (4 × 4 in).
Back:
Cast on 102 (110) stitches and work 7 cm / 2¾ in in ribbing pattern, increasing evenly by 11 stitches in the last row = 113 (121) stitches.
Continue in the main pattern and increase 1 stitch on each side every 12th row 4 times, then every 10th row 3 times = 127 (135) stitches.
Work as follows: knit 13 cm / 5 in in stockinette stitch, then continue in Main Pattern 1.
Place one pattern repeat at the center and arrange the rest symmetrically toward the sides, letting the pattern fade out.
When expanding the pattern, make sure that for every yarn over there are 2 stitches knitted together or vice versa; otherwise, work the stitches as knit or purl.
After finishing the chart, continue working all stitches in Double Seed Stitch.
At 60 cm / 23½ in total height, for the neckline, bind off the center 23 stitches, and on each side bind off 7 stitches once and 2 stitches once, in every 2nd row.
At the same time, for the shoulders, bind off 10 stitches once and 11 stitches 3 times (11 stitches once and 12 stitches 3 times) in every 2nd row.
Front:
Work as for the back until the neckline.
At 55 cm / 21½ in height, bind off the center 15 stitches and on each side bind off 3 stitches once, 2 stitches 3 times, and 1 stitch 4 times, in every 2nd row.
At 60 cm / 23½ in height, bind off the shoulder stitches as for the back.
Sleeves:
Cast on 48 stitches and work 7 cm / 2¾ in in ribbing pattern, increasing evenly by 23 stitches in the last row = 71 stitches.
Continue as follows: work 13 cm / 5 in in stockinette stitch, then begin Main Pattern 2 at the center of the sleeve and work stockinette stitch on each side.
At the same time, for the sleeve shaping, increase 1 stitch on each side in the 2nd row, then 1 stitch on each side every 4th row 27 times = 127 stitches.
At 44 cm / 17¼ in total height, bind off all stitches.
Work the second sleeve the same way.
Finishing:
Sew all seams and set in the sleeves.
With circular needle size US 1.5, pick up about 97 stitches evenly around the neckline, beginning and ending at the front center, and work 5 cm / 2 in in ribbing pattern back and forth.
