Sweater with Lace Pattern
How to knit the Sweater with Lace Pattern:
Sizes: US 6/8 (10/12), UK 10/12 (14/16), EU 38/40 (42/44).
Materials:
650 (700) g yarn (100% cotton; 137 yd/1.76 oz); US 1½ (2.5 mm) and US 4 (3.5 mm) knitting needles; US 1½ (2.5 mm) circular needle, 16 inches (40 cm) long.
Ribbing Pattern, US 1½ (2.5 mm) needles: alternate 1 knit stitch and 1 purl stitch.
Lace Pattern (Main Pattern), US 4 (3.5 mm) needles:
Work according to the chart, which shows right-side rows only.
On wrong-side rows, work the stitches as they appear and purl the yarn overs.
Gauge: 26 stitches × 36 rows = 4 × 4 inches (10 × 10 cm).
Back:
Cast on 132 (144) stitches and work ¾ inch (2 cm) in Ribbing Pattern, increasing 11 (12) stitches evenly across the last row = 143 (156) stitches.
Continue in the Main Pattern as follows: 1 edge stitch, 5 pattern repeats of 27 stitches each, stitches 1 through 6 of the pattern repeat, 1 edge stitch (1 edge stitch, stitches 8 through 27 of the pattern repeat, 4 pattern repeats of 27 stitches each, stitches 1 through 26 of the pattern repeat, 1 edge stitch).
Repeat Rows 1 through 10 four times, then work Rows 11 through 42 once, after that repeat Rows 43 and 44 throughout.
At a height of 26¾ (27¼) inches [68 (69) cm] from the ribbing, bind off the center 29 (32) stitches for the neckline, then on each side bind off 3 stitches twice in every second row.
At a height of 27½ (28) inches [70 (71) cm] from the ribbing, bind off the remaining shoulder stitches.
Front:
Work as for the Back, but with a deeper neckline.
At a height of 23½ (24) inches [60 (61) cm] from the ribbing, bind off the center 11 (14) stitches, then on each side in every second row bind off 3 stitches twice, 2 stitches three times, and 1 stitch three times.
At a height of 27½ (28) inches [70 (71) cm] from the ribbing, bind off the remaining shoulder stitches.
Cast on 56 stitches and work ¾ inch (2 cm) in Ribbing Pattern, increasing 6 stitches evenly across the last row = 62 stitches.
Continue in the Main Pattern as follows: 1 edge stitch, 2 pattern repeats, stitches 1 through 6 of the pattern repeat, 1 edge stitch.
Work Rows 1 through 42 in this arrangement, then repeat Rows 43 and 44 throughout.
At a height of 3½ inches (9 cm), increase 1 stitch at each side once; for Size US 6/8 work 1 stitch increases 3 times in every fourth row, then alternately in every second and fourth row increase 1 stitch 34 times; for Size US 10/12 alternately in every second and fourth row increase 1 stitch 36 times, then in every second row increase 1 stitch 3 times = 138 (142) stitches.
At a height of 16½ inches (42 cm) from the beginning, bind off all stitches.
Finishing:
Sew the shoulder seams.
For the neckband, with the circular needle pick up 120 (124) stitches around the neckline and work 1 row in purl stitches, 1 row in knit stitches, 1 eyelet row (= alternately knit 2 stitches together and work 1 yarn over), 5 rows in knit stitches, 1 eyelet row, and 4 rows in knit stitches.
Fold the neckband to the inside at the second eyelet row and sew it in place.
Sew the side and sleeve seams. Set in the sleeves.
