Sweater with Leaf Pattern
How to knit the Sweater with Leaf Pattern:
Sizes: EU 36/38 (42/44) = UK 8/10 (14/16), US 4/6 (10/12).
Measurements in inches: to fit bust approx. 32–34 (38–40) in.
Materials:
550 (650) g yarn (100% cotton, 137 yds/1.76 oz). Needles US 1.5 (2.5 mm) and US 4 (3.5 mm) and short circular needles US 1.5 (2.5 mm).
Ribbing Pattern: * knit 1 through the back loop, purl 1 *; on wrong-side rows * knit 1, purl 1 through the back loop *.
Reverse Stockinette Stitch: right-side rows purl stitches, wrong-side rows knit stitches.
Leaf Pattern (over 27 stitches):
Work according to chart, which shows right-side rows only.
On wrong-side rows, work the stitches as they appear, purl the yarn overs.
For size 42/44, work the Leaf Pattern over 31 stitches.
For this, work an additional 2 stitches in Reverse Stockinette Stitch on both sides of the pattern repeat.
Repeat rows 1 to 44 throughout.
Vertical Lace Stripe (over 4 stitches):
Row 1: * slip 1 stitch as if to knit, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch, yarn over, knit 2, repeat from *.
Row 2: * purl 2 together, yarn over, purl 2.
Repeat these 2 rows throughout.
Gauge: 22.5 stitches and 35 rows = 4 x 4 in (10 x 10 cm).
Back:
Cast on 100 (110) stitches using US 1.5 (2.5 mm) needles and work 3.15 in (8 cm) in Ribbing Pattern, increasing evenly 27 (29) stitches in the last row.
Change to US 4 (3.5 mm) needles and continue as follows: last 14 stitches of the Leaf Pattern repeat (for the larger size do not work the 2 Reverse Stockinette stitches in this repeat), 3 times * 4 stitches Vertical Lace Stripe, 27 (31) stitches Leaf Pattern, * 4 stitches Vertical Lace Stripe and first 14 stitches of the Leaf Pattern repeat (also in this repeat do not work the additional 2 Reverse Stockinette stitches).
At a height of 20.5 (21.65) in (52 (55) cm) from the Ribbing Pattern, bind off the middle 21 stitches and finish both sides separately.
For neck shaping, bind off on every 2nd row 1 time 5 stitches, 1 time 4 stitches and 1 time 3 stitches.
Bind off the remaining stitches at a height of 1.2 in (3 cm) from the beginning of the neckline.
Front:
Work as the Back, but with a deeper neckline.
At a height of 18.1 (19.3) in (46 (49) cm) from the Ribbing Pattern, bind off the middle 15 stitches and finish both sides separately.
For neck shaping, bind off on every 2nd row 1 time 4 stitches, 2 times 3 stitches, 2 times 2 stitches and 1 time 1 stitch.
Bind off the remaining stitches at a height of 3.5 in (9 cm) from the beginning of the neckline.
Sleeves:
Cast on 50 (56) stitches using US 1.5 (2.5 mm) needles and work 3.15 in (8 cm) in Ribbing Pattern, increasing evenly 27 (21) stitches in the last row.
Change to US 4 (3.5 mm) needles and continue as follows: last 20 (18) stitches of the Leaf Pattern repeat, 4 stitches Vertical Lace Stripe, 27 (31) stitches Leaf Pattern, 4 stitches Vertical Lace Stripe and first 20 (18) stitches of the Leaf Pattern repeat.
For sleeve shaping, increase on both sides every 5th row 8 (10) times 1 stitch and every 4th row 17 times 1 stitch, incorporating the increased stitches into the pattern.
At a height of 12.6 (13.4) in (32 (34) cm) from the Ribbing Pattern, bind off all stitches.
Finishing:
Join the shoulder seams.
Pick up 120 stitches around the neckline using circular needles, work 1.2 in (3 cm) in Ribbing Pattern and bind off all stitches.
Join the side seams and sleeve seams. Set in the sleeves.
