Sweater with Pattern Mix
How to knit the sweater with a pattern mix:
Size: US 8–10, UK 12–14
Material:
750 g yarn (51 percent cotton, 49 percent polyacrylic, yardage 110 m per 50 g). Knitting needles 3 mm and 4 mm (US 2.5 and US 6), circular needles 3 mm (US 2.5).
Ribbing Pattern, needles 3 mm (US 2.5): alternately 1 knit stitch, 1 purl stitch.
All following patterns work with needles 4 mm (US 6).
Garter stitch: right-side and wrong-side rows work knit stitches.
Diagonal A: number of stitches a multiple of 6.
Work according to chart 1, which shows only right-side rows.
On wrong-side rows, work the stitches as they appear.
Across the row, repeat the pattern stitches.
Vertically, repeat rows 1 to 12.
Diagonal B:
Work as Diagonal A, but according to chart 2.
Diamond Pattern with Cables (over 24 stitches), needles 3 mm or 4 mm (US 2.5 or US 6):
Work according to chart 3.
On wrong-side rows, work the stitches as they appear.
Vertically, repeat rows 1 to 26.
Lace Pattern: number of stitches a multiple of 18.
Work according to chart 4.
On wrong-side rows, work the stitches as they appear, purl the yarn overs.
Across the row, repeat the pattern stitches.
Vertically, repeat rows 1 to 16.
Gauge: 22.5 stitches and 28.5 rows = 10 x 10 cm (4 x 4 inches).
Back:
Cast on 116 stitches and work 8 cm for the hem as follows: edge stitch, 45 stitches in Ribbing Pattern, 24 stitches in Diamond Pattern with Cables, 45 stitches in Ribbing Pattern, edge stitch.
In the last row, increase 18 stitches evenly across the ribbing stitches = 134 stitches.
Then arrange the stitches as follows: edge stitch, 54 stitches Diagonal A, 24 stitches Diamond Pattern with Cables, 54 stitches Diagonal B, edge stitch.
After 31.5 cm = 90 rows from the hem, work garter stitch instead of the diagonals, and after 34.5 cm = 98 rows from the hem replace garter stitch with the Lace Pattern, starting the Lace Pattern after the Diamond Pattern with Cables at the arrow.
After 60 cm = 172 rows from the ribbing, bind off the center 30 stitches for the neckline and finish both sides separately.
For neckline shaping, bind off at the inner edge in every second row 2 times 4 stitches.
After 62 cm = 178 rows from the hem, bind off the remaining 44 shoulder stitches.
Front:
Work as for the back, but with a V-shaped neckline.
For this, after 37 cm = 106 rows from the hem, divide the work in the center and finish both sides separately.
For the slope, decrease at the inner edge 23 times 1 stitch, alternating in every second and every fourth row, as follows: on the right edge, purl together the last stitch of the Lace Pattern and the first stitch of the Diamond Pattern with Cables; on the left edge, purl together the last stitch of the Diamond Pattern with Cables and the first stitch of the Lace Pattern.
Bind off the remaining 44 shoulder stitches at the same height as the back.
Sleeves:
Cast on 50 stitches and work 7 cm for the hem as follows: edge stitch, 12 stitches in Ribbing Pattern, 24 stitches in Diamond Pattern with Cables, 12 stitches in Ribbing Pattern, edge stitch.
In the last row, increase 24 stitches evenly across the ribbing stitches = 74 stitches.
Then rearrange the stitches: edge stitch, 24 stitches Diagonal A, 24 stitches Diamond Pattern with Cables, 24 stitches Diagonal B, edge stitch.
For sleeve shaping, increase on both sides, starting from the hem, 25 times 1 stitch in every fourth row, working the increased stitches into the pattern = 124 stitches.
At the same time, after 19 cm = 54 rows from the hem work garter stitch instead of the diagonals, and after 22 cm = 62 rows from the hem replace garter stitch with the Lace Pattern.
After 36 cm = 102 rows from the ribbing, bind off all stitches.
Finishing:
Work the seams, leaving the upper side edges open for 27.5 cm for the armholes.
Along the neckline, pick up about 182 stitches on circular needles and work in Ribbing Pattern, making sure that a knit stitch falls at the point (center stitch) of the neckline.
For the V-shaped neckline, in every second round slip the stitch before the center stitch and the center stitch as if to knit, knit the next stitch, and pass the slipped stitches over.
After 3 cm of ribbing height, bind off all stitches following the pattern.
Sew in the sleeves.
