Sweater with Ribbed Sleeves
How to knit a sweater with ribbed sleeves:
Sizes: US 4/6 (8/10); UK 8/10 (12/14)
Material:
350 (400) g yarn (51% merino wool, 49% microfiber, 150 m/50 g); straight and circular knitting needles size 4.5 mm (US 7).
Ribbing Pattern: edge stitch, * 1 purl stitch, 3 knit stitches, 1 purl stitch, repeat from *, edge stitch.
On wrong-side rows, work the stitches as they appear.
Stockinette stitch: on right-side rows knit stitches, on wrong-side rows purl stitches.
Main pattern: number of stitches multiple of 44 + 1.
Work according to the chart, which shows right-side rows in ribbing only.
On wrong-side rows, work the stitches as they appear, work the yarn overs through the back loop.
Work the pattern repeat 2 times, end with the stitch after the repeat.
Work once from row 1 to row 46, then repeat rows 23 to 46 throughout.
Gauge, main pattern and ribbing pattern: 21 stitches and 27.5 rows = 10 x 10 cm.
Back:
Cast on 99 (107) stitches and work as follows: edge stitch, 4 (8) stitches stockinette stitch, 89 stitches main pattern, 4 (8) stitches stockinette stitch, edge stitch.
At the same time, starting from the cast-on edge, for waist shaping decrease 1 stitch on each side in row 12, then decrease 3 times 1 stitch every 10th row = 91 (99) stitches.
After 22 cm = 60 rows from the cast-on edge, increase 1 stitch on each side, then increase 3 times 1 stitch every 8th row = 99 (107) stitches.
After 33.5 cm = 92 rows from the cast-on edge, for armholes bind off 4 stitches on each side, then in every 2nd row bind off 1 time 3 stitches, 1 time 2 stitches and 2 times 1 stitch = 77 (85) stitches.
After 51.5 cm = 142 rows (53.5 cm = 148 rows) from the cast-on edge, for shoulder shaping bind off 5 (6) stitches on each side, then in every 2nd row bind off 2 times 5 (6) stitches.
After 54 cm = 148 rows (56 cm = 154 rows) from the cast-on edge, bind off 6 (7) stitches on each side, place the remaining 35 stitches on hold for the neckline.
Front:
Work as for the back, but with neckline shaping.
After 48 cm = 132 rows (50 cm = 138 rows) from the cast-on edge, bind off the center 9 stitches and finish both sides separately.
For the neckline curve, from the inner edge bind off 6 times 2 stitches and 1 time 1 stitch in every 2nd row.
At the same height as the back, bind off the remaining 6 (7) stitches.
Sleeves:
Cast on 47 (57) stitches and work in ribbing pattern.
At the same time, starting from the cast-on edge, for sleeve shaping increase 1 stitch on each side in every 8th row 12 times, working the increased stitches into the pattern = 71 (81) stitches.
After 38 cm = 104 rows from the cast-on edge, for the sleeve cap bind off 3 (4) stitches on each side, then bind off in every 2nd row 1 time 2 stitches and 3 times 1 stitch, in every 4th row 3 times 1 stitch, and in every 2nd row 2 times 1 stitch, 4 times 2 stitches and 2 times 3 stitches.
After 51.5 cm = 142 rows from the cast-on edge, bind off the remaining 17 (25) stitches.
Finishing:
Work the shoulder seams.
Transfer the stitches on hold to the circular needles, pick up 45 stitches evenly around the neckline and work in rounds over all 80 stitches in ribbing pattern.
After 8 cm, bind off the stitches following the pattern.
Set in the sleeves, then work the side seams and sleeve seams.
