Sweater with Stand-Up Collar
How to knit the Sweater with Stand-Up Collar:
Sizes: EU 38–40 (US 6–8 / UK 10–12) and EU 48–50 (US 16–18 / UK 20–22)
Materials:
700 (800) g pear-colored yarn (100% soft merino wool, 150 m/50 g; approx. 164 yds/1.76 oz); straight needles 3 mm and 3.5 mm (US 2.5 and 4); cable needle.
Ribbing Pattern, needles 3 mm (US 2.5): * knit 1, purl 1; repeat from *.
Stockinette stitch: right-side rows knit stitches, wrong-side rows purl stitches.
Reverse stockinette stitch: right-side rows purl stitches, wrong-side rows knit stitches.
All following patterns to be worked with needles 3.5 mm (US 4).
Garter stitch: knit all stitches.
Central pattern (pattern width 19 stitches):
Work according to chart 1, which shows right-side rows only.
On wrong-side rows, work the stitches as they appear.
Repeat rows 1 to 44 throughout.
Cable A (pattern width 7 stitches):
Rows 1 and 3: p1, k2, p1, k2, p1.
Row 2 and all following even rows: work the stitches as they appear.
Row 5: p1, cross 5 stitches to the right (place 2 stitches on first cable needle and hold at back of work, place 1 stitch on second cable needle and hold at back of work, k2, then p1 from second cable needle and k2 from first cable needle).
Repeat rows 1 to 6 throughout.
Cable B (pattern width 7 stitches):
Work as Cable A, but cross 5 stitches to the left (place 2 stitches on first cable needle and hold in front of work, place 1 stitch on second cable needle and hold at back of work, k2, then p1 from second cable needle and k2 from first cable needle).
Diamond Pattern on Garter Stitch (pattern width 8 stitches):
Work according to chart 2, which shows right-side and wrong-side rows.
Begin with stitches before the repeat, repeat the stitches of the pattern repeat, end with stitches after the repeat.
Work rows 1 to 22 once, then repeat rows 7 to 22 throughout.
Diamond Pattern A (pattern width 8 stitches):
Work according to chart 3, which shows right-side rows only.
On wrong-side rows, work the stitches as they appear.
Repeat rows 1 to 40 throughout.
Diamond Pattern B (pattern width 16 stitches): 3 stitches stockinette stitch, 1 stitch reverse stockinette stitch, 8 stitches Diamond Pattern A, 1 stitch reverse stockinette stitch, 3 stitches stockinette stitch.
Gauge: 29 stitches and 40 rows = 10 x 10 cm (4 x 4 inches).
Back/Front:
Cast on 153 (185) stitches and work 2 cm (0.8 inches) in Ribbing Pattern, increasing 10 stitches evenly across the last row.
Then work as follows: 64 (80) stitches Diamond Pattern on Garter Stitch, 7 stitches Cable A, 19 stitches central pattern, 7 stitches Cable B, 64 (80) stitches Diamond Pattern on Garter Stitch.
After 5 repeats of the Diamond Pattern on Garter Stitch, work 10 rows in garter stitch over these stitches, then continue with Diamond Pattern B over these stitches.
After 64 cm (25.2 inches) from Ribbing Pattern, bind off 46 (62) stitches at each side for shoulders.
Work 4 cm (1.6 inches) over the remaining 71 stitches in pattern for the collar.
Then work 1 purl row for the fold line and 4 cm (1.6 inches) in stockinette stitch for the inside of the collar, bind off all stitches.
Sleeves:
Cast on 50 (56) stitches for each sleeve and work 2 cm (0.8 inches) in Ribbing Pattern, increasing 15 stitches evenly across the last row.
Then work as follows: 15 (18) stitches Diamond Pattern B, beginning with 2 (5) knit stitches, 7 stitches Cable A, 19 stitches central pattern, 7 stitches Cable B, 15 (18) stitches Diamond Pattern B.
For sleeve shaping, increase 1 stitch at each side in every 3rd row 52 (46) times and in every 2nd row 0 (6) times, incorporating increased stitches into the pattern.
After 40 (38) cm (15.7 (15) inches) from Ribbing Pattern, bind off all stitches.
Finishing:
Sew shoulder seams.
Fold the inside of the collar to the wrong side and sew in place.
Set in sleeves, aligning the center with the shoulder seam.
Sew sleeve seams and side seams.
