Sweater with Textured Cables
How knit the sweater with textured cables:
Size: M–L (US 10–12 / UK 12–14).
Material:
600 g of yarn (50% viscose, 50% acrylic; 440 m/100 g), straight and circular needles size US 5 (UK 6) – 3.75 mm.
Work throughout with double yarn.
Ribbing Pattern 1x1: work *1 knit stitch, 1 purl stitch*, repeat from * to *.
Popcorn Pattern:
Row 1 – *1 knit stitch, 1 purl stitch*, repeat from * to *.
Row 2 – work all stitches knitwise.
Repeat these 2 rows throughout.
Textured Pattern:
Work according to charts 1–4 following the instructions.
The charts show right-side rows only.
On wrong-side rows, work the stitches as they appear and purl the yarn overs.
Gauge:
Textured Pattern: 25 stitches and 26 rows = 10 x 10 cm (4 x 4 in).
Popcorn Pattern: 22 stitches and 26 rows = 10 x 10 cm (4 x 4 in).
Back:
Cast on 109 stitches and work 4 cm (1½ in) in Ribbing Pattern 1x1.
Then continue in Popcorn Pattern and Textured Pattern, increasing evenly in the 1st row 8 stitches between the textured pattern sections (= 117 stitches in total) by picking up the horizontal strands between stitches:
edge stitch, 6 stitches in Popcorn Pattern, 12 stitches from chart 1, 16 stitches from chart 2, 8 stitches from chart 3, 31 stitches in Popcorn Pattern, 8 stitches from chart 3, 16 stitches from chart 2, 12 stitches from chart 1, 6 stitches in Popcorn Pattern, edge stitch.
At a total height of 44 cm (17¼ in) bind off 2 stitches on each side for the armholes (= 113 stitches).
Continue working straight.
At a total height of 55 cm (21¾ in) bind off the center 39 stitches for the neckline and finish each side separately.
For neckline shaping, bind off at the inner edge every 2nd row 3 times 5 stitches.
At a total height of 60 cm (23½ in) bind off the remaining 22 shoulder stitches at once.
Work the second side symmetrically.
Front:
Cast on 109 stitches and work 4 cm (1½ in) in Ribbing Pattern 1x1.
Then continue in Popcorn Pattern and Textured Pattern, increasing evenly in the 1st row 11 stitches (= 120 stitches in total):
edge stitch, 6 stitches in Popcorn Pattern, 12 stitches from chart 1, 16 stitches from chart 2, 8 stitches from chart 3, 34 stitches from chart 4, 8 stitches from chart 3, 16 stitches from chart 2, 12 stitches from chart 1, 6 stitches in Popcorn Pattern, edge stitch.
At a total height of 44 cm (17¼ in) bind off 2 stitches on each side for the armholes (= 116 stitches).
Continue working straight.
At a total height of 55 cm (21¾ in) bind off the center 34 stitches for the neckline and finish each side separately.
For neckline shaping, bind off at the inner edge every 2nd row 1 time 6 stitches, 2 times 5 stitches, and 1 time 3 stitches.
At a total height of 60 cm (23½ in) bind off the remaining 22 shoulder stitches at once.
Work the second side symmetrically.
Sleeves:
Sew shoulder seams.
Along the armhole edge with straight needles, pick up evenly 71 stitches (1 stitch from the shoulder seam + 35 stitches on each side of it).
Work in Popcorn Pattern, decreasing for sleeve shaping 1 stitch on each side every 8th row 13 times (= 45 stitches).
At a total height of 48 cm (19 in) work 10 cm (4 in) in Ribbing Pattern 1x1 and bind off all stitches.
Work the second sleeve the same way.
Finishing:
For the neckband, pick up evenly 150 stitches along the neckline edge on the right side with circular needles and work 20 cm (8 in) in Ribbing Pattern 1x1 in the round.
Bind off all stitches loosely.
Fold the neckband in half to the wrong side and sew it down.
Sew side and sleeve seams.
