Sweater with wide Lace Panel
How to knit the sweater with a wide lace panel:
Sizes: 36/38 (40/42) 44/46 UK; 4/6 (8/10) 12/14 US.
Materials:
600 (650/700) g yarn (75% cotton, 25% viscose; 125 m/50 g; approx. 137 yd/1.76 oz); knitting needles size 3 and 4 UK (US 2.5 and 4); circular needles size 3 UK (US 2.5), 40 cm (16 in) long.
Stockinette Stitch, needles size 3 UK (US 2.5): right-side rows knit stitches, wrong-side rows purl stitches.
Seed stitch (main pattern), needles size 4 UK (US 4): work alternately 1 knit, 1 purl, shifting the pattern in every row.
Gauge: 23 stitches x 32 rows = 10 x 10 cm (4 x 4 in).
Lace Pattern 1 (over 12 stitches), needles size 4 UK (US 4):
Work according to the chart 1, only right-side rows are shown.
On wrong-side rows, work the stitches as they appear, purl the yarn overs.
Repeat rows 1 to 4.
12 stitches = 6 cm (2.4 in) wide.
Lace Pattern 2 (over 43 stitches), needles size 4 UK (US 4):
Work according to the chart 2, only right-side rows are shown.
On wrong-side rows, work the stitches as they appear, purl the yarn overs.
Begin with 1 edge stitch and the stitches before the repeat, work 3 repeats and the stitches after the repeat.
On wrong-side rows, work the stitches as they appear, purl the yarn overs.
Repeat rows 1 to 10.
43 stitches = 20 cm (7.9 in) wide.
Border pattern, needles size 3 UK (US 2.5): odd number of stitches.
Rows 1–7: Stockinette Stitch.
Row 8 (right side): edge stitch, * knit 2 together, yarn over, repeat from *, knit 1, edge stitch.
Rows 9–15: Stockinette Stitch.
Back:
Cast on 127 (137/147) stitches and work 15 rows in border pattern.
Then continue in the main pattern as follows: edge stitch, 15 (18/21) stitches seed stitch, 12 stitches Lace Pattern 1, 14 (16/18) stitches seed stitch, 43 stitches Lace Pattern 2, 14 (16/18) stitches seed stitch, 12 stitches Lace Pattern 1, 15 (18/21) stitches seed stitch, edge stitch.
At a height of 64 (65/66) cm (25.2 (25.6/26) in), for the neckline bind off the middle 31 stitches, then on both sides bind off in every 2nd row 2 times 3 stitches.
At the same time for the shoulder shaping bind off in every 2nd row 2 times 10 and 2 times 11 stitches (1 time 11 and 3 times 12 stitches / 4 times 13 stitches).
Front:
Work as for the back, but with a deeper neckline.
For this, at a height of 57 (58/59) cm (22.4 (22.8/23.2) in), bind off the middle 11 stitches, then on both sides in every 2nd row bind off 2 times 3 stitches, 3 times 2 stitches and 4 times 1 stitch.
At a height of 64 (65/66) cm (25.2 (25.6/26) in), shape the shoulders as for the back.
Sleeves:
Cast on 49 (53/57) stitches and work 15 rows in border pattern, at the same time in the last row increase evenly 10 stitches = 59 (63/67) stitches.
Then continue as follows: edge stitch, 7 (9/11) stitches seed stitch, 43 stitches Lace Pattern 2, 7 (9/11) stitches seed stitch, edge stitch.
For shaping increase on both sides alternately in every 4th and 6th row 4 times 1 stitch, then in every 4th row 24 times 1 stitch = 115 (119/123) stitches.
Work the increased stitches in seed stitch.
At a height of 42 cm (16.5 in), bind off all stitches.
Finishing:
Work the seams, set in the sleeves.
Along the neckline pick up approx. 116 stitches with circular needles and work 15 rounds in border pattern (7 rounds knit stitches, 1 round lace pattern as Row 8, then 7 rounds knit stitches).
Fold all borders in half to the inside along the lace row and sew.
