Tunic with V-Neck and Cable Diamonds
How to knit the tunic with V-neck:
Size: US 6/8, UK 10/12
Material:
750 g yarn (51% cotton, 49% pure wool, yardage approx. 115 m/50 g); straight knitting needles 2.5 mm and 3.5 mm (US 2 and US 4).
Ribbing Pattern, needles 2.5 mm: odd number of stitches; work alternately 1 purl stitch, 1 twisted knit stitch, at the end of the row work 1 purl stitch.
Cable Diamonds, needles 3.5 mm: number of stitches multiple of 26 + 5 + 2 edge stitches.
Work according to the chart, which shows only right-side rows, except for rows 30 and 62.
On wrong-side rows, work the stitches as they appear, twisted knit stitches work as twisted purl stitches.
Begin with 1 edge stitch and the stitches before the repeat, then work the stitches of the repeat throughout, end with the stitches after the repeat and 1 edge stitch.
Work rows 1 to 6 six times, rows 7 to 16 once, rows 17 to 62 twice, rows 17 to 40 once, then repeat rows 41 to 46 throughout.
For the sleeves: work rows 1 to 40 once, then repeat rows 41 to 46 throughout.
Gauge: 29 stitches and 32 rows = 10 x 10 cm.
Back:
Cast on 163 stitches and work Cable Diamonds = after the first increases within the pattern = 165 stitches.
After 69 cm = 222 rows from the cast-on edge, bind off the center 41 stitches for the neckline and finish both sides separately.
For shaping the neckline, bind off at the inner edge every 2nd row 2 times 4 stitches.
After 71 cm from the cast-on edge, bind off the remaining 54 shoulder stitches.
Front:
Work as for the back, but with a deeper neckline.
For this, after 50 cm = 160 rows from the cast-on edge, divide the work into 2 parts of 83 stitches (= right half, with the center stitch becoming an edge stitch) and 82 stitches (= left half), and finish both sides separately.
For shaping the neckline, bind off at the inner edge 7 times 1 stitch every 2nd row and 12 times 1 stitch every 4th row, decreasing as follows: work the two stitches before the last cable together as one purl stitch = 64 stitches.
After 71 cm = 228 rows from the cast-on edge, bind off 54 stitches at the right edge for the shoulder and work the remaining 10 stitches for another 9.5 cm in pattern for the facing.
Then bind off all stitches in pattern.
Finish the left half to mirror the right half, at the beginning increase 1 stitch at the inner edge and work it as an edge stitch = 83 stitches.
Sleeves:
Cast on 55 stitches each and work 5.5 cm in Ribbing Pattern.
Then work Cable Diamonds, in the 1st row within the cable stitches increase 1 stitch each so that the Ribbing Pattern can be continued = 59 stitches.
For shaping, increase on both sides starting from the ribbing 34 times 1 stitch alternately every 2nd and 4th row and 8 times 1 stitch every 2nd row, working the increased stitches into the pattern = 143 stitches.
After 37.5 cm = 120 rows from the ribbing, bind off all stitches.
Finishing:
Join the shoulder seams.
Sew the short sides of the facing together, sew the facing to the back neckline, easing it in slightly.
Set in the sleeves, sew the side seams and sleeve seams.
