Women's Polo Collar Sweater
How to knit the sweater with a polo collar:
Sizes: UK/US sizes: 8/10 (12/14) 16/18
Materials:
750 (800) 850 g viscose-acrylic yarn (approx. 115 m/50 g / 126 yds/1.76 oz); circular needles size 4 mm (US 6) and 3.5 mm (US 4) and 1 button.
Ribbing Pattern (needles 3.5 mm / US 4): alternate 1 knit stitch and 1 purl stitch.
All following patterns work with needles 4 mm / US 6.
Patent Mesh Pattern: even number of stitches.
Row 1 and Row 2: knit stitches.
Row 3: * 1 knit stitch, knit into stitch below (= insert the right needle into the stitch one row below, work 1 knit stitch, allowing the stitch from the left needle to drop), repeat from *.
Row 4: * lift the strand lying in front of the stitch worked into the stitch below onto the right needle and work it together with this stitch as a knit stitch, repeat from *.
Row 5: * 1 stitch worked into stitch below, 1 knit stitch, repeat from *.
Row 6: * 1 knit stitch, lift the strand lying in front of the stitch worked into the stitch below onto the right needle and work it together with this stitch as a knit stitch, repeat from *.
Work Row 1 to Row 6 once, then repeat Row 3 to Row 6 throughout.
Half Brioche Pattern: odd number of stitches.
Row 1: * p1, k1, repeat from *, end p1.
Row 2: * k1, slip 1 stitch together with a yarn over as if to purl, repeat from *, end k1.
Row 3: * p1, work the stitch together with its yarn over as a knit stitch, repeat from *, end p1.
Work Row 1 to Row 3 once in height, then repeat Row 2 and Row 3 throughout.
Gauge: 18 stitches and 40 rows = 10 x 10 cm (4 x 4 inches).
Back:
Cast on 96 (104) 112 stitches and work 9 cm (3.5 inches) in Ribbing Pattern, increasing 5 stitches evenly in the last row = 101 (109) 117 stitches.
Then arrange the stitches as follows: 1 edge stitch, * 18 (20) 22 stitches Patent Mesh Pattern, 9 stitches Half Brioche Pattern, repeat from * 2 times, 18 (20) 22 stitches Patent Mesh Pattern, 1 edge stitch.
At a height of 58 cm (22.8 inches) bind off all stitches.
Front:
Work as for the back, but at a height of 50 cm (19.7 inches) from the beginning place stitches 47–101 (51–109) 55–117 on hold and finish the left front side.
For the placket, increase 9 stitches at the inner edge and work them in Half Brioche Pattern, work all other stitches as before.
At a height of 58 cm (22.8 inches) from the beginning bind off 46 (50) 54 stitches at the right edge, continue working the placket stitches for 2 cm (0.8 inches) in Half Brioche Pattern, then bind off.
Place the held 55 (59) 63 stitches back on the needles and work the right front side symmetrically, working 9 stitches in Half Brioche Pattern at the outer edge.
Work all other stitches as before.
At a height of 5 cm (2 inches) from the beginning of the placket bind off 4–6 stitches and cast them on again in the next row.
Left Sleeve:
Cast on 50 stitches and work 6 cm (2.4 inches) in Ribbing Pattern, increasing 9 stitches evenly in the last row = 59 stitches.
Then arrange the stitches as follows: 1 edge stitch, 12 stitches Patent Mesh Pattern, 33 stitches Half Brioche Pattern, 12 stitches Patent Mesh Pattern, 1 edge stitch.
For the sleeve shaping increase 1 stitch at both sides every 6th row 23 times = 105 stitches.
At a height of 42 cm (16.5 inches) from the beginning bind off in every 2nd row once 8 stitches and 3 times 9 stitches.
Continue working the remaining 35 stitches in Half Brioche Pattern.
At a height of 62 (64) 66 cm (24.4 (25.2) 26 inches) bind off the middle 3 stitches and finish both sides separately.
For the back part bind off 1 stitch 4 times in every 2nd row.
Continue working the remaining 12 stitches.
At a height of 72 (74) 76 cm (28.3 (29.1) 30 inches) from the beginning bind off these stitches.
For the front part bind off 1 stitch 6 times and 2 stitches 2 times in every 2nd row and bind off the remaining 6 stitches at a height of 70 (72) 74 cm (27.6 (28.3) 29.1 inches).
Right Sleeve: Work as for the left sleeve, but mirror.
Finishing:
Sew the sleeve sections between front and back, joining the narrower edges at the back.
Sew the narrower edge of the lower placket and sew on the button.
Pick up 119 stitches along the neckline from the middle of the placket to the middle of the placket and work 8 cm (3.1 inches) in Ribbing Pattern, then bind off all stitches.
