Checker Stitch Knitting Pattern #63
How to knit the Checker Stitch:
Work with a multiple of 12 stitches + 9 + 2 edge stitches.
Cast on 23 stitches (4 + 12 + 5 + 2 edge stitches) and work according to сhart.
The chart shows only right-side rows.
On wrong-side rows, work the stitches as they appear, knit the yarn overs.
The pattern repeat is 12 stitches wide.
Begin with 1 edge stitch and 4 stitches before the pattern repeat, repeat the pattern throughout, end with 5 stitches after the pattern repeat and 1 edge stitch.
Abbreviation:
k: knit stitch
p: purl stitch
yo: yarn over. On wrong-side rows, knit the yarn over.
k2tog: knit 2 stitches together
skpo: slip 1 stitch as if to knit, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch
Written row-by-row instructions:
Rows 1 and 3 (right side): 1 edge stitch, k1, p3, * p4, k5, p3 *; repeat from * to *, end with p4, k1, 1 edge stitch.
Row 2 and all even-numbered rows (wrong side): work the stitches as they appear, knit the yarn overs.
Row 5: knit all stitches.
Row 7: 1 edge stitch, p1, yo, k2tog, k1, * k2, skpo, yo, p5, yo, k2tog, k1 *; repeat from * to *, end with k2, skpo, yo, p1, 1 edge stitch.
Rows 9 and 11: 1 edge stitch, p2, k2, * k3, p7, k2 *; repeat from * to *, end with k3, p2, 1 edge stitch.
Row 13: knit all stitches.
Row 15: 1 edge stitch, skpo, yo, p2, * p3, yo, k2tog, k3, skpo, yo, p2 *; repeat from * to *, end with p3, yo, k2tog, 1 edge stitch.
Repeat Rows 1-16 throughout.
