How to knit the Checker Stitch:
Work with a multiple of 16 stitches + 2 edge stitches.
Cast on 18 stitches (16 + 2 edge stitches) and work according to сhart.
The chart shows only right-side rows.
On Wrong Side Rows, work the stitches as they appear, purl the yarn overs.
The pattern repeat is 16 stitches wide.
Repeat pattern between edge stitches throughout.
Abbreviation:
k: Knit
p: Purl
yo: Yarn Over
k2tog: knit 2 stitches together
Written row-by-row instructions:
Rows 1, 3 and 5 (right side): 1 edge stitch, * (k2tog, yo) 2 times, k4, p4, (k1, p1) 2 times *; repeat from * to *, end with 1 edge stitch.
Row 2 and all even-numbered rows (wrong side): work the stitches as they appear, knit the yarn overs.
Rows 7, 9 and 11: 1 edge stitch, * (k1, p1) 2 times, (k2tog, yo) 2 times, k4, p4 *; repeat from * to *, end with 1 edge stitch.
Repeat Rows 1-12 throughout.
