How to knit the Relief Ribbing Stitch:
Work with a multiple of 2 stitches + 1 + 2 edge stitches.
Cast on 17 stitches (2 sts 7 times + 1 + 2 edge stitches) and work according to the chart.
The chart shows right-side and wrong-side rows.
Numbers at the right edge indicate right-side row, at the left edge wrong-side rows.
Begin with wrong-side row.
The pattern repeat is 2 stitches wide.
Begin with 1 edge stitch, repeat the pattern repeat throughout, end with 1 stitch after the repeat and 1 edge stitch.
Abbreviations:
k: knit stitch
p: purl stitch
double stitch: slip 1 stitch onto the right needle, insert the needle into this stitch one row below and knit it
Written row-by-row instructions:
Row 1 (wrong side): Knit.
Row 2 (right side): 1 edge stitch, * p1, double stitch *; repeat from * to *; end with p1 and 1 edge stitch.
Row 3: Knit.
Work Rows 1-3 once, then repeat Rows 2 and 3 throughout.
