Raglan Sweater with Pockets
How to knit the raglan sweater with pockets:
Sizes: 38 (40/42) EU / 8 (10/12) UK / 6 (8/10) US.
Materials:
750 (850) g yarn (100% cotton, 109 yd/50 g). Needles US 2.5–4 (3–3.5 mm) and US 4–6 (3.5–4 mm).
Garter stitch, needles US 2.5–4: work all rows knit stitches.
Ribbing Pattern, needles US 2.5–4: alternate 1 knit stitch, 1 purl stitch.
Diamond Stitch Pattern, needles US 2.5–4:
Work according to chart, only right-side rows are shown.
On wrong-side rows, work the stitches as they appear, purl the yarn overs.
At the edges, decrease as many stitches as yarn overs made.
Repeat rows 1 to 12 throughout.
Stockinette stitch, needles US 4–6: right-side rows knit stitches, wrong-side rows purl stitches.
Reverse stockinette stitch, needles US 4–6: right-side rows purl stitches, wrong-side rows knit stitches.
Main pattern, needles US 4–6:
Rows 1–4 and 7–12: stockinette stitch.
Row 5: * work 2 stitches together knitwise, yarn over, work 2 knit stitches, repeat from *.
Row 6: work all stitches and yarn overs purlwise.
Repeat rows 1 to 12 throughout.
Gauge in main pattern: 23 stitches and 31 rows = 4 x 4 in (10 x 10 cm).
Front:
Cast on 116 (122) stitches and work 4 rows in garter stitch.
Then work the diamond stitch pattern from arrow A, repeat the pattern throughout and finish according to pattern.
After 34 rows (3.5 in / 9 cm from cast-on) work as follows: 1 edge stitch, 12 (14) stitches garter stitch, 26 stitches diamond pattern (continue pattern as before), 38 (40) stitches garter stitch, 26 stitches diamond pattern, 12 (14) stitches garter stitch, 1 edge stitch.
After 4 rows, place the diamond pattern stitches on hold for the pockets.
Work the remaining stitches in the main pattern, at the same time increase evenly 2 (6) stitches at both sides and between the pockets, and cast on 28 stitches for each pocket lining = 130 (136) stitches.
After 16 in (41 cm) from cast-on, for raglan shaping bind off 5 (6) stitches at both sides, then in every 2nd row bind off 2 stitches twice, then decrease 1 stitch 39 times in every 2nd row, that is work the 3rd and 4th stitches together knitwise or work a slip 1 stitch as if to knit, work 1 knit stitch and pass the slipped stitch over.
At the same time, after 26 in (66 cm) from cast-on, for the neckline bind off the middle 14 (18) stitches and finish both sides separately.
For neckline shaping, bind off in every 2nd row 3 stitches twice, 2 stitches once and 1 stitch twice = total length 27.5 in (70 cm).
Back:
Work as the front, but after 34 rows in the diamond pattern work all stitches 4 rows in garter stitch, then continue in the main pattern, increasing evenly 14 stitches in the first row.
Work raglan shaping as for the front and finish at the same height as the front without neckline.
Sleeves:
Cast on 44 stitches and work 2 in (5 cm) in garter stitch, at the same time in the last row increase evenly 25 stitches = 69 stitches.
Then work as follows: 1 edge stitch, 23 stitches main pattern, 1 stitch stockinette stitch, 19 stitches diamond pattern from arrow B, repeat the pattern once and finish according to pattern; 1 stitch stockinette stitch, 23 stitches diamond pattern mirrored to the beginning of the row, 1 edge stitch.
Increase at both sides in the 7th row 1 stitch once, then in every 5th row 23 times 1 stitch, incorporating the new stitches into the pattern = 117 stitches.
After 17 in (43 cm) from cast-on, for raglan shaping bind off 5 stitches at both sides, then in every 2nd row bind off 2 stitches twice and decrease 1 stitch 39 times in every following 2nd row, that is work the 3rd and 4th stitches together knitwise or work slip 1 stitch as if to knit, work 1 knit stitch and pass the slipped stitch over.
After 28.5 in (72 cm) from cast-on, bind off all remaining stitches.
Finishing:
Place the held pocket stitches onto a needle and work separately 4 in (10 cm) in diamond pattern and 4 rows garter stitch, then bind off stitches.
Sew the pockets.
Sew raglan seams.
Pick up stitches along the neckline, work 1.2 in (3 cm) in Ribbing Pattern and bind off all stitches.
Sew side seams and sleeve seams.
